You are going to be one of those Vette owners that tries to convince himself their Vette is special because it is 1 of 3 or 4 made in a year. Usually because it has a shitty build sheet.

No they aren't they are bringing top dollar because of all the delivery delays due to COVID and Chevy's laundry list of build issues so the demand is high. When everything is sorted and supply gets to where Chevy wants it to be the 2020s will likely be the year to avoid. If you have the first consumer C8 produces yeah you have something. If you have a mythical 2020 with an actual $59,995 MSRP that will actually garner some interest later.

Just read about this thing. That's definitely what I would buy.
Probably wouldn't drive it much. I enjoy, you know... being alive.

Hell of a lot of fun though.

A fun car that doesn’t depreciate as quickly as other cars is possible. Appreciation... that’s just lucky.
$120k range - 911 50th.
$60k - e46 or e92, unique color
Low cost - ZR1, first gen, low mileage
Mustang - any Cobra R

The earliest Tesla Roadster you can find. I've seen a 2008 for 100K.

You can't get anything close to the claimed numbers unless you have the Demon Crate and use SS100 fuel at AHRA strips.

It will be many years from now.

I bought a 2020 Vette. It was extremely low production and a great car. They already bring top dollar because of this.
Once Chevy finally ramps up production to cover demand the prices of used will go down.
Between Kung Flu and the chip shortage, and other things I'm sure, production has not been where they want it and it is in extremely high demand, inflating prices for used.

Sell it now if you’re interested in making money on it.
911’s are usually a safe bet for this sort of thing.
You can rarely find a 997.1 GT3 for under 100k. 996/997 turbos should also continue to appreciate.
You’re almost certainly not going to beat the market on car appreciation, but if you buy right you can get a really really fun car to play with on weekends and you won’t lose much, if anything. Maybe even make a few bucks.

The Mustang GT350/350R ceased production in the 2020 model year. I’d consider one of those.

While more money my pick of the recent 991s would be a 997 GT3 or 991 GT3 RS both with a manual. People are buying more and more automated gearboxes likes the PDK because they are faster in basically every situation but as a car gets older you don't buy it for pure performance since the newer versions are faster, you buy it for nostalgia and nothing is more nostalgic than a manual

It is interesting that you mention unique color. In days gone by mu Imola Red E46 would be the resell king. In the last 5-6 years (I credit YT) low production colors and especially contrasting interior/exterior combos have started to take off. I think it has to do with the notoriety these individual builds get on the web. In the past, the resell combo for an 8 cylinder mid-engine Ferrari was always Rosso Corsa now if you have an individual build Fiarono Red (especially if it is matte) with a high contract interior and other bits that make it actually unique it is likely to fetch a premium.
I think the best Bimmer from the last 25 years to hold onto would be the E36 M3 Lightweight. The market is already exploded but it keeps going up.

but if I wanted a modern hotrod to hold on to, I’d get a Shelby Cobra with the 5.2 Voodoo flat crank motor and send it to fathouse for a twin turbo install kit. The car is a work of art (unlike the demon) and 1350 HP after the mod.
This is a terrible idea if you want to eventually sell it lol

Jeep Wrangler is the only answer

If you want a classic 911 for reasonable, 1983 SC's are the cheapest, or perhaps a standard 996.

I bet I could figure out how to get one of those into the nines pretty quick, but I'm not doing any of that. I want to be "grandpa" one day, not Steak Diane.

Honestly blows my mind seeing non-rs 991 GT3 builds with pdk. If you’re buying a GT3, how tf do you get pdk instead of the manual?

All you would have to do is learn to drive the stock car well. It is a high 9s car out of the box on a properly prepped track. That being one prepped for that level of HP, not so much that it dead hooks and you lose wheel speed.
Dodge showed a 9.65 pass in the press when it debuted but it was a while before anyone matched that, bringing questions about it being a ringer. It took about a year before anyone matched or beat the 9.65 but someone finally got a "verified" stock Demon into the 9.5s. He did it at the House of Hook in SC which has one of the best-prepped tracks in the nation for street through pro mods and it usually has a great DA.

Have heard some stories of guys getting multiple warranty replacement engines in those. Apparently they don't like being tracked hard.
