I would think a Lariat with the 501A would be around $41K and the 502A around $44K.

Sticker is a fictitious number and doesn't have any bearing on the price of the vehicle.

I keep seeing this. If it's a fictitious number, how are you getting your figure to start negotiating on?

You compare similar trucks at different dealers.
(MSRP/Invoice; all those numbers are crap.)

Work them to get the lowest price.

Truecar used to be good, too good in fact.
Dealers got on their arse so they changed it. (got a lot less accurate )

No where close to that around here. 501A will run you 45k and the 502A will get you up to 49-50k after negotiating some. XLTs are what the Lariat was 5 years ago, they will run you low 40s.

Truth is, the Lariat has a lot of bullshite stacked on it now. you can't get a base Lariat without all the camera and LED bullshite stuck on the truck everywhere.

That one nearly has every option available minus premium paint and two tone which could bump it another 1k or so and it was still 52k after rebates and discounts. you could still probably get that at the 50 or 51k mark.

People that say buy "slight used truck and save a ton" haven't purchased a new or used truck in this century and if they have, they haven't saved even $500.

Can you explain this? I've seen a lot of posts like this in these threads lately. Saying buying used is a terrible purchase right now.. etc.

If new Lariats cost $50k+ but I can get a used one a couple of years old with decent mileage for under $35k, how is that not saving money?

Not a ford guy but GMC now has the SLt 4sa, 55K, @ 20% off msrp. Thats 11g off. Play on their site you will get a extra 1500 dollar rebate. So 43k for a loaded out truck with 0 miles and full warranty.

If you could, sure. But the only reason you might be able to do this now is because 2 years old is the last body style which doesn't have a lot of the features the new ones have.

ETA: You can buy a new Lariat Crew Cab for around $40k, that same truck will be worth significantly more than a 2014 in a couple years, and will have more features. It will also have a full warranty and have no possibility of being beat on. Buying used on new domestic late model trucks is just not advantageous.

You are overstating the new costs (2016) and understating the used costs.

There have been multiple posts explaining this, in this thread.

If you are determined to buy used, buy used. It isn't the best decision for trucks and it hasn't been smart in 10-15 years, but people still do it.

New Lariats don't actually cost $50K+ off the lot. You are using new MSRP against used price, which is a false comparison. MSRP means little when domestics are coming off of it by $14,000 in terms of what you pay.

It used to be that if a new truck cost $30,000, you could get one a couple of years used for $14,000. 50% or more off because someone else drove it a couple of years? Ok, I'll take that deal.

It doesn't make sense anymore though when a new truck is $42,000 off the lot and a couple of years used one with 50,000 miles on it is $38,000. That's not a good deal. In that example, I'll gladly pay 9% more for 0 miles and a full warranty and whatever small upgrades have been made to the model in the intervening years.
