We go to Sonic up the road from where I live in Ohio and after continuing to get screwed with long waits and rude service at the drive-thru, I keep longing for the days when I lived close to Gainesville and Sonic was a regional Southern chain that served Dixie Burgers, were open 24/7 or really late, and didn't have annoying ads like they do now with that one doofus making lame jokes. The same goes for Chick-Fil-A here but Chick-Fil-A has been national in mall food courts for a while before they started expanding to free standing locations.

Any regional chains that you feel have sold out?

Five Guys has to be included. I never went to the first, but when I initially tasted it about 10 years ago I was extremely underwhelmed. Meat has no flavor, none. The tomato overpowers it and those dips hits use American cheese crap. That places it in the same zone as McDonalds and Burger King.

I've never understood the appeal of Five Guys. Never.

They really aren't that great, and if you actually buy a whole meal (burger, fries, and drink), it's expensive as hell. And they actually have the audacity to market themselves as "most affordable burger in town."

And the whole "oh, sorry, we only serve fries in portions meant for two people." WTF???

Your roommate was wrong. Sonic was founded in Shawnee (damn near Oklahoma City)..not Tulsa.

I was excited about it. Gave it several chances at different locations. Bland.

Bud's Broiler kicks Five Guy's arse up and down the block being cooked over charcoal and using sharp shredded cheddar.
