Battery World That place HAS to be a money laundering front.

I would guess that a lot of these places are laundering fronts

Podnuhs has a terrible reputation for burning their restaurants down when they see business plummeting. Just saying. They ain’t never put out a grease fire at that place.

Essen location burned in 90s. Another location I believe did too.

Kid who grew up down the street from me got busted in that hotel slinging dope in the late 90s / early 2000s.

Dunno about any other but yes Essen burnt to the ground.

The building off Constitution housed Semolina for years after Ponduh's left in the 90's but not sure what it is now.

Another poster above claimed there was a Podnuh's off Bluebonnet but that is news to me.

Essen-burned
Florida-still operational but I believe closes at 2pm
Sherwood-dirty but still open.
Constitution-Sold and something else now.

Minimal overhead
Probably ridiculous profit margins.

One more point to add to this. My wife made the comment “this place seems like where the mob would hang out”. Pretty astute observation because…

Fun fact: Because there’s mirrors on the wall and you technically can see 360 if you’re sitting at the center of the restaurant.

Anyway I told her “There’s absolutely no way. The food is too awful. Not even an option.”

Helps when the owners are also in the insurance business.

“Closed for remodeling” is BR for “fricking closed, period.”

That was how most places which went bust in the late 80s labeled themselves. Fuddruckers managed to do that twice.

It’s wasn’t on Nicholson but highland across from state lumber. I used to get shrimp fried, pepper steak with onions, fried chicken wings, and a 20 oz coke on Saturdays during football season. I’d just eat, watched the games and wanted the world not to bother me that day.
