Maybe the 3 closing in Zachary are trying to get ahead of the impacts if Exxon chooses Texas. I wouldn't have a clue but something has to be driving that phenomenon as that seems to be a pretty rare occurrence

You’re assuming they are buying the materials in Lousiana or even building parts of the expansion here
A good portion of the bulk materials (mud, rebar, cement, some valves, bolts/nuts, misc. supplies, etc.) will be bought locally in the Baton Rouge area. There are a lot of supply companies in Baton Rouge parish already. We have even bought materials from Baton Rouge on a previous North Dakota project I was on. This will bring some revenue to the city.
A lot of times the fabricated equipment won't be built in the same parish unless a local contractor gets some of that business. Even then a lot of times the major equipment is tax exempt (due to the company making this deal with the local/state government ahead of time).
I work on these projects/expansions (work in cost with project controls), so I get to see this first hand.
Regardless of the materials, these expansions will bring tax money to the city during and after the expansion like a previous poster stated. More jobs means more spending for local businesses and probably more property taxes for people moving there.

There are several plants planning huge expansions in St. James and Ascension parishes by the way.
Lake Charles is also about to get $30+ billion dollars in LNG projects, so it's not like Louisiana is losing everything to Texas.

Exxon is in the early stages of design for a 700+ million dollar project that will be located near the other Exxon facilities on 61 in Scotlandville.

Democrats are retarded. It’s truly a mental disorder.

It doesn’t matter where the material is bought, LA/EBR will get their tax dollars on that material, unless the project is tax exempt. Materials bought locally will pay a sales tax at the time of purchase. All materials bought elsewhere, the contractor/owner is responsible to pay the use tax

Yep. Shell is looking at expansion projects right now. These politards need to get their heads out of their asses and make it happen.
As someone who has visited areas during construction of a project or during a major turnaround, it's amazing what happens to a local economy during these times.
And yes, a lot of equipment, rentals, material, etc is purchased locally. Gas stations, hotels, restaurants, trailer park rental sites, grocery stores, etc all get slammed. They all pay taxes. Not to mention the employees locally working at the site as well as the support business employees that bring home checks locally.

Gotta love the Together BR socialists.

Because they say that Exxon is taking money away from schools through ITEP. They, like most other teachers, naively believe that more money = better education, which is false. I'm beginning to believe that whatever teachers support or oppose, I support or oppose the opposite by default.

EXXON leaving will be the final nail in the coffin for Baton Rouge and LSU
LSU was here well before Exxon and it will be here well after...
Exxon is simply "preparing the battlefield"
They see articles like this as a way to create enough public pressure to entice political entities into voting in their favor when the time comes. Pitting municipalities against each other ensures a favorable outcome for the company.

Yes the river, rail, interstates nearby, and the available cheap natural gas all work in our favor
