Business Report: Exxon Mobil's Baton Rouge future

Business Report
ExxonMobil has a big decision to make in early 2019 involving Baton Rouge, and whatever it decides will have major implications for the city’s relationship with the economic giant.
The oil-and-gas behemoth will soon announce whether it’s chosen Baton Rouge as the site of a major expansion project worth up to $1 billion, or another Gulf Coast city, likely one in Texas. The project is part of Exxon’s massive $20 billion Growing the Gulf initiative, and winning it would help Baton Rouge compete for additional investments included in the growth initiative.
But if recent history and recent controversies are any indicator, Baton Rouge’s chances are looking weak.
The backlash Exxon has received regarding ITEP applications, despite following the rules, creates, its officials say, a seemingly unfair and unpredictable business climate.
“By singling out ExxonMobil despite hundreds of other companies filing applications, this group is not only maligning the largest corporate investor of East Baton Rouge Schools, but they are also sending a strong anti-business message to our corporation,” said spokeswoman Stephanie Cargile in December.

I’m nearly positive Exxon is expanding in BR but I almost want to see them do it elsewhere just to hear what the fricks at Together BR have to say

While the new rules did provide guidance from the state in the ITEP approval process, and capped the property tax breaks at 80% for 10 years, local government entities were still given the right to veto ITEP requests. And they have begun to take control of this newfound power, which is where the dissension comes in.

In East Baton Rouge Parish, the Metro Council created its own ITEP approval guidelines with stricter requirements than the state, while the school board, as of early January, has yet to agree on its own set of conditions for approval after a contentious debate. In New Orleans, the city council recently implemented even more stringent guidelines than Baton Rouge.

Easy answer
Yup... got a spot picked out... 4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 bath, large pool, small neighborhood, closer to work, cheaper than BR, less traffic
Ever drive golf balls off your front lawn while your S/O does doughnuts in a cane field on a 4wheeler???

Another reason why Together Louisiana and progressives are full of shite. This is why these industries need tax breaks and incentives. If not, they’ll decide to shutdown and move elsewhere rather than expanding and then boom there goes our economy, down the drain

Offer tax breaks and get jobs.
Or don’t offer tax breaks and get nothing.
Either way you weren’t collecting those taxes.

This is a shot sighted approach from local governments accross the state. These expansions bring lots of people which increases sales tax revenue and also some of the expansion (materials used on the project and rentals used on the project) increases sales tax revenue. Also depending on the expansion, it would collect more sales tax from the plant once the new project is operating.

Louisiana has only a small fraction of the oil that Texas does.

Exxon has already demonstrated numerous times the benefits their company brings to Baton Rouge go far beyond the tax exempted.
They will keep building in Texas and Louisiana will surpass MS in every category or sucking
