In today's world, which marketing strategy do you find most effective?

- Billboards
- Direct Mail
- Email Marketing
- Local Magazine
- Newspaper
- Online Marketing, such as TD.com
- Radio Advertisement
- Search Engine Optimization
- Television
- Word of Mouth

Pick your top and bottom 3.

Mine are ...

Top 3

1. Word of Mouth
2. SEO
2. Online Marketing

Bottom 3

1. Billboards
2. Newspaper
3. Direct Mail (although relatively inexpensive)

Results may vary based upon business type.

Depends on your target demographic.

Your ranking is fairly accurate unless you're selling adult diapers or denture cream

Advertising is based on one thing, happiness. And you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. It's freedom from fear. It's a billboard on the side of the road that screams reassurance that whatever you are doing is okay. You are okay.

The type of advertising depends greatly on the type of business. Strategies vary widely.

What kind of business did you have in mind when you posted?

I'm guessing you're counting creating a Twitter Account, Instagram Account, Facebook Page and Tumblr or other simple Blog for the business as a given right?

I have found as an admin for a local org's FB page that pictures and constant updates along with simple interactive posts with the every-now-and-again promoted post gets massive attention for us.

Also, don't underestimate radio advertising.

You can also get involved as a local sponsor of a do-good-for-the-community type of day. Getting involved as a volunteer org would get you some free pub that you could cross market with bigger Social Media Accounts and believe me, this generates traffic you may underestimate.

IE-Teaming up on Relay for Life, or Earth Day, or LIve After 5 or Groovin on the Grounds will put you arm-in-arm with other companies and organizations that have much larger followings on social media. By being able to @ them and establish some rapport online, you can get Re-Tweets and Sub-Tweets and that will generate a presence that it's hard to put a price tag on and is literally cost less.

Everybody knows about McDonalds and Walmart.

If Word of Mouth was the best, then they would have stopped advertising years ago.

Word of Mouth is a disease that only takes you so far.

Radio has helped me a lot, though it takes some time to work.

Surprisingly Yellow Pages help to an extent, I definitely bring in more a month from it then I spend on YP.

My website and online presence do fine, I don't do FB or Twitter with business though. Only so much to say about windshields and hate to keep taking pics of people's cars especially since I'm all mobile and don't wanna snap pics at their house also.

Word of mouth is my biggest help. Of course all my advertising is for just local use. Like someone else said, don't underestimate radio. Just give it several months and run as many ads as you can in a day. Don't do like 1 ad a day to cover a whole month. Do 4 ads a day over 8 days or something similar.

Every business is different.

Direct mail could be very effective.

You have online marketing such as Tiger Droppings which is display ads. You didn't mention PPC at all.

Social media. This is hit/miss depending on your business type.
