you're allowing hysteria cloud your thinking. Buying a bulletproof backpack does nothing but feed into it. Your child has a better shot at hitting the powerball two weeks in a row than being saved because you purchased him a bulletproof backpack

You’d be better off with a plate carrier and lvl3+ plates.

No, you shouldn’t have to stop. Your feelings are valid.

Nah, what's the point of them having it if they don't know it's for protection.

and when you thought you've heard enough absurdity, tBoat plucks is this gem out the middle of the thread

Not only did they want the kindergartner to walk around with an armored plate, but not let him know about it .... isn't the entire idea is you want him to hide behind it?... I just can't even right now fr

While not addressing the issue with Skillet and other posters, feelings are feelings.

OP has had multiple veterans that have used plates and maybe have been shot at, explain why this is a non starter for someone that reads Dog Man books, and hasn't been through Boot Camp or Basic training, shooting, threat assessment, and what putting 10%+ of a kid's bodyweight on their torso means to them.

The anxiety would be far better addressed at a school board or PTA meeting to ask why people may prop doors open at the school event, etc. My school district had man traps and the ID/buzzer system before it was cool (Houston,) yet the liberal arse district my ex-neighbor moved into in Atlanta doesn't lock doors and lets visitors walk unnoticed and unescorted through hallways until "someone" notices.

Maybe, maybe not. Sometimes running ideas through the bullshite of tOT can be useful but not if you are going to get your feelings hurt.

From a logical POV a bullet-resistant backpack is incredibly likely to never get used. Let's examine that highly unlikely scenario. So you have a Level III+ backpack, the minimum I would want, you need to determine how likely the child will have access to it in the scenario of an active shooter. You also need to confirm the weight is within reason for the child, loading up their current backpack with the extra weight would give some insight.

Then you have to teach the child what it is and how to use it properly in dynamic situations. Are the negative aspects of teaching a child this going to be a bigger negative than the positive of some potential protection in the event of an active shooter? The average child is going to react after getting shot at in a way that indicates they have not been mortally hit. So you stopped one bullet what are the chances the shooter doesn't follow up and circumvent the backpack?

The chances of your child ever being targeted in a school shooting are incredibly low, the backpack will likely only increase the odds of not being a casualty by a small amount. From a simple odds standpoint, you are more likely to increase the overall safety of your child by researching and buying the safest vehicle you can afford to transport them paying close attention to both passive and active safety features. There are lots of other ways to increase their safety from a purely statistical way.

The conundrum for the parent is once you have considered the idea of buying one you are stuck with the thought that could you ever forgive yourself if the highly unlikely happens.

1% of child gun deaths are at school. It’s really not necessary, but if you feel it necessary, just buy one. I don’t know if y’all have guns in your house, but your kid is far more likely to die from a gun in your house than at school.

This is not a time for logic and rational thinking.
What about the children!!!???

It's a damn shame something such as these even needs to exist.

It's even worse since someone is making bank off the fear, when these are likely not rated for most calibers in the first place. But how do you tell a parent to not be protective? This is an easy sell for the vendors.

When people come from emotion, the only way to change a mindset is through thoughtful and careful analyses of their arguments which eventually end in , "that's ineffective." There are breeds of women that are like, "F yeah, I want 25 of you armed in my kids school running errands," and then there are the rest of women. Same XX who generally let a kid that doesn't weigh enough to trigger the airbag ride in the front seat.

I'm not shitting on OP, I understand her feelings, but feelings aren't facts (which I meant to previously post.) Nobody is changing her mind, and that's fine. Have you guys seen the people you've voted into state office lately
(in multiple states)? Don't take it out on her. Attack the idea, not the person, but grant that women and men have very different start points, on average, from each other. Women are 98% safety. They also don't kill themselves when they're 20 year bros doing, "watch this," stunts. There's supposed to be a balance.
