After the events this week and with kindergarten round-up coming up next month, my husband didn't think I was crazy for thinking we should get a back pack like this.

Have yall bought any? This is so far out of my comfort zone. I live in a safe area but that means nothing anymore.

Do you make it fun or just say this is it. You can have a fun water bottle or something.

Share link?

I hate that I am interested because this should not be a thing.

Found them. This is so sad, but they have kid ones.

I would buy one.
It’s not noticeable and is cool AF.

You don't have to say anything except "Here's a new backpack"

You have to say it’s bulletproof use it to protect yourself.

But I hate that I have to do that. IDK. This is such an internal struggle.

Picking out a backpack was so cool when I was young.

I don’t have a backpack but I do have a level III vest that I’ll wear when entering certain places. You get what you pay for

Yes, he's little.

Maybe I can do two backpacks one to shield violence and the other can bring home meaningless papers.

Getting a kid to use it properly in a tense situation may be a challenge. Couple that with the backpack likely isn’t going to be immediately near them if an emergency occurs and it decreases its usefulness.

Overall , I’m sure it works great, but it’s really more peace of mind for the parents.

Teacher training, heavy solid classroom doors, and door locks are probably much more effective.

This reminds me of the wacko trying to sell parachutes to wear under your suit after 9/11.

The armor levels provided are not enough to stop the rounds most commonly used in school shootings.

Level IV plates will be what you're looking for.

<1% of child gun deaths are at school. It’s really not necessary, but if you feel it necessary, just buy one.

I don’t know if y’all have guns in your house, but your kid is far more likely to die from a gun in your house than at school.

I understand having kids and being concerned about these things these days. When those kids at Sandy Hook were killed we had a 6 yr old in school. But the odds are extremely low and I refuse to alter my life or my kids for these nut jobs.

honestly I'm not thinking of buying my child a bullet proof backpack. That's hysteria reserved for folk that don't share chromosomes. Didn't expect Boo to be on board for that.

Christian schools need armed security like public schools have. This isn't 1990 anymore, they are hated and targeted and people have caught on that many of them don't have security. I'm sure parents will happily fork over for it and they should. Take it with the board, the diocese, whatever. It needs to happen.

ditto for bulletproof glass, that one fixture could have singlehandedly prevented this last one.

Sure this stuff won't stop everything but risk management is the name of the game.

Anyway these backpacks are probably ungodly heavy and more suited for college kids.

Don't be rude. He's thinking of every possible option to protect his child.

The fact that this exists makes me so very sad for our world.

I am not too worried about it. Probably more dangerous in the car on the way to school.
