That's apparently too logical.

Again. We do not have a draft. We have registration for a draft if one is ever enacted again. But the draft was ended in 1973.

I don't think this is true. Need to confirm.
Also, kids who legally immigrate as minors might not either.

Since when? When I turned 18 I was told I only needed to register for the draft in order to qualify for FASFA.

No fricking shite. Registration for the draft and the actual draft are synonymous. If you get rid of the ability to have a draft, you also get rid of the need to register for the draft.

What happens if we become embroiled in a major war requiring a draft?

If your war can't generate the numbers that you need just by having people enlist, then you need to take a long, hard look at the reason why you're fighting.

You do realize even after we were attacked by the Japanese, a draft was required, right? 16 million Americans served in the Armed Forces during the war. Of that number over 10 million were drafted.

Are you saying that instead of drafting soldiers during WWII our leaders should have instead sued for peace because a draft was needed?

This isn't 1941, but I would still be 100% against a draft.

You’re an idiot. Even the Greatest Generation, in arguably the most popular war in our history, required a draft to meet our manpower requirements. Voluntary enlistment didn’t come close. In fact, the US Army was running out of infantrymen in Europe in late ‘44 and ‘45. They were having to scavenge truck drivers, cooks, AAA units, etc to flesh out line infantry units.

Are all of you that fricking stupid?

This was brought about by a lawsuit by men's rights activists. They argued that with the allowance of women in direct combat roles, men were discriminated against by the laws that required them to sign up for the draft to be eligible for certain government programs, like student loans.

Rather compelling argument, I think.

Frankly, I think we should scrap Selective Service registration entirely. We won't ever really use it, and if we do, it won't be hard to restart a registration program.

This idea comes up fairly often. I've said that once they got the okay to serve in combat, they should have to register for the draft, too.
I still believe that.

Do we need large man power anymore though? Any serious war would be between nuclear powers which hopefully will never happen. Either that or some proxy war like Vietnam which would likely be highly unpopular and ultimately not directly important to the US.
