Panel to recommend making women register for the draft

A panel charged with evaluating the Selective Service System will recommend requiring women to register future military drafts, according to congressional sources briefed on the upcoming report.

The bipartisan National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service — which spent the last two years holding information sessions on the issue — is set to release its findings on Wednesday.

They will include for the first time requiring women between the ages of 18 and 25 to register for potential conscription in the event of a prolonged war, as all young men are currently required to do.

--------

Men between the ages of 18 and 25 who don’t register for the draft face possible fines and jail time, and may be ineligible for benefits like federal student loans. Advocates for adding women to the registration system have argued in the past that levying those penalties only on men is unfair.

The panel should recommend getting rid of the draft.

We haven’t drafted anyone since 1973. Only time it would come back is in case of WWIII, so never.

As for this plan to make women register for the draft, here’s my thoughts. Either women are equal or they’re not. And being equal means you’re equal all the time or none of the time, not just when it benefits you.

“EQUAL RIGHTS, EQUAL TREATMENT”

“Ummm, wait a second... We didn’t mean like.... the draft.”

If they don’t like being told what to do with their bodies pertaining to abortion, they really aren’t going to like this.

From what I’ve seen in movies and shows lately, this is great news because women don’t need to be trained, they are smarter, support other women unconditionally and they are great at everything.

Yes.

However, they will protest being included in the draft.

Would add: if women do not think it is fair to have to compete with "transitioned" (fe)males in sports, they are REALLY going to dislike competing with the original version in war.

I don't understand why anyone has to register for the draft. Every child gets a SSN when they are born so the government already knows when you turn 18.

They’ll make women register for the draft just so they can say it’s equal, but if WWIII comes and they start drafting people, it’s still gonna be mostly men who get drafted and will do the fighting.

I bet it’s another case of women having their cake and eating it too. It will be fake equality.

This isn’t true, at all. They REALLY want to sign you up in the hospital but Social Security is a fully voluntary program. You don’t have to sign up for it.

My son doesn’t have a SS number. No, I don’t claim him on my taxes. Yes, you can get a passport, he has one.

I didn’t want to make a financial choice for him that he can’t get out of. Once you have a number it’s for life, you can’t rescind it, but nothing says you have to have one.
