Exactly. And why do we need a study to build a gas station next to an interstate? Have we not done interstate interchanges before? Just
Go look at how they’re done in Texas or Alabama and copy that.

I'm going to get downvoted, but this is standard practice for any DOT.

Alabama and Tennessee had the same requirements for Buc-ee's. You can't just plop down a gas station the size of a Buc-ee's without a traffic impact study and expect everything to be fine. Typically the developer hires a firm that has the traffic study ready to go when they apply. I know because I've been asked by people to help them with a study for different DOTs and I told them no

"But it's good for taxes!" is how you get DSLD plopping down thousands of their cardboard shitboxes with no traffic mitigation then people bitch about how badly it backs up.

Yeah traffice studies are fine. Those happen everywhere.

But the timeframes need to be expediated. 18 months for study and modifications, when we have other states and templates as models is absurd.

Which is why I do expect those timeframes to be shortened. Buc-ees will have their people in BR to make sure these reports get to the right desks in a timely manner.

Have you seen the number of vehicles going in and out of a Bucees? You don't think it warrants studying the impact to surrounding roads?

People acting like Bucees is some bizarre white trash Mecca bazaar.

The developer is responsible for the traffic study.

Right. But DOTD will get final review.

I doubt it takes Buc-ees 18 months to produce the study/mods report. Most of the waiting will be on the State approval.

This is just not true. They will have to take the time to model the impacts.

Somebody please explain to me like I'm 5 what the hell could take 6 months to complete a study.

They don't, which is why I'm curious exactly what the mayor is citing. I can imagine something like Buc-ee's will get priority in review, and rightly so. The study and review shouldn't take long, but the construction to the interchange probably will.

ETA and like jester said the developer provides the study, i don't think DOTD does anything except approve the results

In my 30 years of living, this is by far the least surprising thing I've ever seen.

Something good trying to be built in this state, the corrupt dip shite politicians want to be paid. Rinse, wash, repeat until the end of existence.

Oh yes indeed the construction to the interchange will take that long. DOTD loves to go with the cheapo bargain basement contractor bid with a company that has ten employees, a rusty pickup truck, and a credit card to rent equipment. They take FOREVER to get road projects done in this state.

Every Walmart, Target, Hotel etc has to do the same thing. Surprised they had no idea. Same in every other state.

Who didn't see this coming a mile away? We tried to warn you N. LA baws. Louisiana is undefeated at fricking up this kind of shite.

Beaver Aplin is just trolling us anytime someone dangles a "Louisiana Buc-ees" out there. This won't be the last time.

Unfortunately you can't expedite the NEPA process.

Buc-ees has been building this exact design now for a while. They know what needs to be done and I can promise you when they announced they knew how long it “should” take based on their experiences in other places.

This delay is because either LA is asking for something different / extra, or because LA takes much longer than other states do.

I don’t have a problem with it if it is done correctly, but since this is LA they’ll probably frick it all up. Getting in and out of the one in Baldwin is a fricking nightmare if it’s crowded.
