Buc-ee’s is still going to call Ruston home.

It may just be a little later on the 2025 calendar than the original timeline provided when the news first broke in January.

According to Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker, due to the time-frames for Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) studies involving traffic flow the opening of the travel center may be later than originally projected.

“The DOTD requires a traffic study that will take 180 days,” said Walker. “At the same time there has to be an interchange and modification report that will take 12 months. Some of that can somewhat run concurrently, but not a lot of it. They really need the traffic study to decide the modifications, but there is some cross over. As Buc-ee’s (officials) said to me, ‘Mayor sit back and relax for six months because we can’t do anything until then.'”

Walker did say that both City of Ruston officials and Buc-ee’s officials are still talking through things on a regular basis.

“We are still talking every week about things that we can take care of,” Walker said. “I personally feel it will be pushed back a couple of quarters if I had to guess”

That pushes the opening of the world-renowned travel center which will be located on the north side of I-20 along Tarbutton Road to the middle of 2025.

Good for Louisiana! Who does Bucees think they are wanting to come into our state and spend millions of their dirty money?

I guess Baton Rouge is upset about Ruston getting the first Bucees. Time to screw this up like everything else in this state.

All it will have is I-20 traffic, the side road Tarbutton or whatnot is spare.

There's a Jr High on it but once school is out there's probably 2-3 cars every 15-20 minutes. Trailer park and a liquor store.

The one in Terrell, TX is where Hwy 80 and I-20 merge

Someone didnt get paid off.

When Disney considered Louisiana the politicians said "what can you do for us"

When they went to Florida they said "what can we do for you"

This is why we can’t have nice things. Some form of state government has to screw it up. Thanks Louisiana DOTD

So Close, Baw. When Disney came to LA, they already owned the land in FL under a shell company, Reedy Creek. They used their trip to LA to strong arm FL into more tax incentives. It was always going to FL.

So, who in Baton Rouge wants money? What a scummy shakedown. It is no wonder parents are sending their kids out of state for college - we are so damn backwards.

I would not be surprised if Bucee’s tells Louisiana goodbye. Other states will make it happen.

For a state so reliant on sales taxes and apparently broke, Louisiana sure does put up a lot of impediments to sales tax generators. 12 months to “study” the flow. 12 months?

I’d LOL if Bucees walked away again.

What about environmental impact studies while we are at it.

Those come after the traffic studies and delay construction another year.

So stupid…That exchange was recently rebuilt (less than 3 years old), and it was spec’d for commercial expansion.

Perhaps LA DOTD should save those funds to be used for I-20 repairs in Bossier City. That stretch of highway is literally crumbling.
