They are building their first in Kentucky about 45 minutes from me, but I'll go there once a month probably.

There's just not a whole lot of options in Louisiana that fits their needs while also being close enough to some kind of town that can staff the place.
Something in Tangi Parish on 55 would seem to work, no?
But I'm sure JBE's brother has a hand out for sure!

why would they consistently skip over their own neighboring state?
Article from April 2021 explaining some of it:

Some quotes from it
quote:
“We’re not looking in Louisiana,” said Jeff Nadalo, general counsel for Buc-ee’s Ltd. “We’re focusing on other areas.”
quote:
At one time, Buc-ee’s was considering a Louisiana location. In March 2016, it was reported the company would open its first Louisiana store in Baton Rouge, in the Greens at Millerville development off Interstate 12.
But a few months later, those plans fell through. Nadalo said the privately held chain needed a “critical mass” of stores to overcome the costs associated with expanding and operating in a new market.
"To date, we have only been able to secure one site," he told The Advocate in November 2016. "As a result, we have decided not to move forward in Baton Rouge."
If you read between the lines it is obvious the reason wasn't the critical mass of stores because several of the stores opened out of Texas are in the middle of nowhere like the one in Robertsdale, AL.

What "actual good food" can last all day in a car without needing to be in an ice chest and then somehow re-heated?
I much prefer to eat light on the road than heavy, greasy BBQ sandwiches. Fruit, cheese, pasta salad, sandwiches/wraps, chicken salad, boiled eggs, chips, vegetables, dips, hummus.
That said, we still stop at Bucees because of the bathrooms if there is one nearby.

Buc-ees sales most of that stuff. Just have to double up on it when you're out on the road.

What gives?
It’s called the “Little Big Horn”
Once Louisiana realizes that money is going out of state to these Bucees, politicians will change their tune and lower the bar.

I personally think the whole Buc-ee’s phenomenon is more than just a little strange

Those are very nice. I can literally see one out my window at work in the Houston area. Classy place.

This is a direct quote from Bucceess upper management on why they canceled putting a store in La.
"We did not anticipate the high costs associated with doing business in Louisiana."

Spot on, starting with demanding Buccees use a specific construction general contractor.
Can you elaborate on this? Is this for any business? Walmart or Chick Fil A has to use certain contractors for the infrastructure improvements like turn lanes and lights?
Is that not normal? I'm clueless about this so any info is appreciated.

The old Jazzland location would be perfect
Awful location. Buc-ee's model is to cater to travelers. They are either completely out of town sort of middle of nowhere (original ones in Luling, Tx and a few others) or they are just outside the city, like the Baytown one or the one just west of Katy. Nobody traveling through the city stops in town. They want to stop before the city or just after.
Good locations would be Vinton or somewhere between Lake Charles and Jennings. Or somewhere between BR and Nola. They stay out of the city.

nowhere in LA is a good location
Posted on 1/3/22 at 4:37 pm to Mike da Tigah
Is this a serious question?

Because in Louisiana most folks would stop at Billy's, On The Run or local joint for a link of boudin or some boudin balls, or at the French Market or Chevron for meat pies.
You think most people that stop at Buc-ee’s are local? A Buc-ee’s would kill it anywhere west of BR on I-10.

There are tons of excellent foods that are designed to be served cold. Any food you get at Buccees is drasticlly better than anything available from a fast food chain. Most of us dont want to waste time stopping for prime rib at a 4 star grille, or whatever it is that you consider "good Food"

I live in Florence and ride by the exit on 95 everyday going to work. I’m not sure when it will be completed but it looks huge.
