Bryan Cranston claims "white blindness" after turning down director role

Back in 2019, the Emmy-winning actor was approached by Matt Shakman and asked if he'd be interested in directing a play based on Larry Shue's 1984 comedy "The Foreigner." It's about an Englishman who prevents the conversion of a Georgia fishing lodge he's staying in into a Ku Klux Klan meeting place.
"It is a privileged viewpoint to be able to look at the Ku Klux Klan and laugh at them and belittle them for their broken and hateful ideology," Cranston said in an interview with the LA Times. "But the Ku Klux Klan and Charlottesville and white supremacists — that’s still happening and it’s not funny. It’s not funny to any group that is marginalized by these groups’ hatred, and it really taught me something."
Cranston admitted he had laughed at the play for years. But now, following recent events of social and racial injustice, such as the murder of George Floyd and the protests that followed, caused him to face his own white privilege.
"And I realized, ‘Oh my God, if there’s one, there’s two, and if there’s two, there are 20 blind spots that I have … what else am I blind to?'" Cranston questioned.
The former "Breaking Bad" star added: "If we’re taking up space with a very palatable play from the 1980s where rich old white people can laugh at white supremacists and say, ‘Shame on you,’ and have a good night in the theater, things need to change, I need to change."
"I’m 65 years old now, and I need to learn, I need to change," he reflected.

Maybe he's upset after he killed so many minorities in Breaking Bad? I like the guy as an actor, but he's so sheltered that he really feels that the KKK and white supremacists are just lurking around every corner, and to even direct a play that literally makes them look like fools is racist.

Yeah, the KKK is like the Italian Mafia - there reputation much-much surpasses their prowess today. Their prevalence and Power is fractions of what is was 40-50 years for both.

God these people are fricking insufferable
The KKK scene in Harold and Kumar is hysterical and makes any association with them seem undesirable. You don't have to formally go on record and say that the KKK is bad every 2 seconds

I can honestly say I have no fricking idea what he’s trying to communicate.
Great actor, shite world views. Those are a dime a dozen though…

Bryan Cranston is a natural treasure and possibly the best actor of his generation, so I hate to see him going Woke. Just put him in front of Mel Brooks movies and tell him to shut the hell up. Mel had been victim of the Nazis and the Klan, so no you can laugh at klansmen and Nazis and is the most powerful tool against them.

The only way you could fill up a bus with KKK is if you rounded up all the members of the Alphabet agencies that make up their membership.

So blacks and other minorities dont find making fun of the KKK funny? What about movies like JO JO Rabbit? There are still NAZIs.

My liberal family members in the Northeast who haven't been to Texas in decades believe Texas is a place where the KKK reigns Supreme and white people ride in pickup trucks hunting minorities and LGBT people for sport

Dave Chappelle should be ashamed of himself and learn how to be a better person. It's just not OK to make fun of certain groups...

Yeah, no shite. Sit Bryan down with Chapelle’s Show that did nothing but make fun of racists.

They just went corporate, KKK is just moved higher into the democrat party. Mafiosos are still in their legit businesses today.
