$175 million net worth doesn't mean he's got $175 million in cash sitting in the bank. Probably only a small fraction of that $175M is actual cash while the majority of that $175M is the equity value in business investments and property holdings. Its a lot bigger deal when you have to start selling off assets to pay a debt instead of just being able to write a check.

Assuming he at least has partial ownership in his catalog, he'll be collecting royalties til he's nothing but a pile of bones 6 feet under.

Also, he's not an athlete with a limited shelf life on his earnings. This guy can be producing and performing for decades to come. So yeah, $50m is not much more than a drop in the bucket.

They’re paying him $80mil/yr to perform there. This is nothin to him.

If he is in debt $50mil to the casino, imagine what he is spending the rest of his money on.

Or he could completely disappear and be forgotten, as happens to pop stars all of the time.

If he owes 50mill to MGM, think of all the other debts and terrible decisions he is making.

$50M to him is like $50K to me.

I can't imagine owing a casino $50K.

I know he is playing some high dollar hands, but maybe he needs to find something that he is actually good at.

That’s not a huge amount for him.

That's a huge amount for almost anyone outside of billionaires. Most of these celebrities' net worth is not just sitting in their bank account. It's in fancy houses, vacations pads, fancy cars, etc.

Okay.

What do you think he’ll have leftover once he settles his gambling debt?

The number doesn’t really matter to me. That’s the point. He will still have a shitload of money compared to most people and will live a better life than almost everyone on the planet. Which is why I don’t care about $50 million or think it’s that substantial to him.

This is why we have such a big problem in this country financially.

Front and center, right here.

Incredible.

The post tax on his 90m probably being about 50m may not be a coincidence in this story-

That they let him run a debt in line with his contracted income with them would definitely explain the big dollars involved

They dont leak stuff on people like this unless they are having a problem getting paid.

If they are having a problem getting paid you can come to your own conclusions as to why.

Even if its more, say, 250, 50 million is still a SUBSTANTIAL percentage of net worth.

Yes if you are talking about a percentage of wealth.

But in your scenario he would still have $200MM. He wouldn’t have to change his lifestyle at all (other than not being a degenerate gambler).

I mean….. I’m sure MGM will come up with some sort of “residency” to pay it off.

I like Bruno Mars. I thought about taking my wife to one of his concerts this year. So I looked to see where he is playing this year.

He is playing in the US...in only ONE city....Las Vegas....at only ONE venue...the MGM Grand...12 shows between June and Sept.

So there might be a little legs to this "rumor"

Exactly. If I get hornswoggled out of $50K, I'm not going to think, "oh, that was only like 15% of my net worth, I'm good."

If true, when do you decide that you suck at gambling. He should just make gambling chips part of his contract next time, but damn, he is a horrible gambler if true.

I have so many questions.

At what point does the casino start to collect? After he loses the first $1m bet?

Let’s say he’s $25m in the hole then goes to make a bet for $1m. Does the casino just say, “sure here’s another” worry about paying us later.
