In order to receive the supplemental pay a BRPD Officer must be post certified and maintain an up-to-date firearms qualification. That means the officer must qualify with his/her department issued gun and go through a week-long training called in-service.
According to the article, in order to receive the supplemental $500/month you have to be eligible to remain in possession of your BRPD service gun. The caveat being, in Steele’s situation is that since he was placed on administrative leave per BRPD policy while under investigation for the two felony charges and misdemeanor is that any Officer placed on administrative leave must have their service weapon, badge, radio, and other gear confiscated while on admin leave.
So if Steele had his service gun confiscated, how would he be eligible for the extra $500/month in order to be certified at the BRPD range?
That’s because Murphy Paul made special arrangements for Steele and made sure he would receive the extra $500/month on top of his salary. Murphy Paul wouldn’t have done jack shite if the Officer in question was White.

Thanks! It's doing pretty good
It's ashame a public official has the media scared to question him, but that's what happens when the city parish spends a ton of money advertising with those stations.
