Prolly heal back stronger. Ask the doc for extra Ketamine.

Son broke his arm when he was three. It was frightening, but he healed up fine. Certainly different than a frmur though. He was only in a cast for 4 weeks, then a splint/brace for a week or two.
Kids are very resilient. Once he adjusts to the cast, he’ll likely be fine. My son cried when they took his cast off. He thought it made him look cool.

frick…..that!
It would take 5 MFers to pry me away from my child in this situation.
On another note, I broke my femur as a 7 year old. A cyst grew in the bone afterwards. I broke it again 5 years later. No surgeries because it was in 1976 and 81. Point being, have him x-rayed annually to make sure it’s growing without abnormalities. At least for a few years.

Not a broken femur but my #3 son broke his Tibia when he was about 14 months old. Happened right in front of my now ex and I. He was climbing up the ladder on our backyard play set and slipped off a rung and hit the ground.
Here’s where it gets kind of bad. He didn’t make a big fuss of it, after mom held him a little he walked off with a limp. She suggested the ER (it was Friday evening of a 3 day weekend for Memorial Day) I said no because he had a scheduled check up on Tuesday.
Well she spent the weekend worrying, he spent the weekend limping around. Fast forward to his appointment on Tuesday - the doc looks at what he is there for asks if there’s anything else she mentions the fall and limping and tells doc I think it’s just a sprain, which is what I thought.
He agrees but then as she is dressing the boy doc says let’s get an x-ray since you’re here just to make sure. X-ray shows a break. Yeah, I felt horrible.
That boy healed up just fine and is now the spec ops kids I mentioned in the Kabul thread.
Your boy will be fine, the docs right. At that age they heal quick and completely.

Maybe he'll learn to obey the teacher now.

You're sort of lucky it happened at daycare, or you'd be under the CPS microscope right now being accused of child abuse.
Sorry for your little guy. I can't imagine how bad it would hurt to break a femur.

daycare. I could spend hours venting about the daycare but I’d rather just get to what matters
I feel for you and wish your kid a speedy recovery.
This is BS though. In reality it didn’t matter where it happened. You could have left daycare out, but since you included it you should at least tell us the story.
Daycare is a tough job that underpays and kids are aholes: source someone with 3 kids that went to daycare. It’s very very easy for incidents to happen at daycares, especially a better one with larger play areas kids can hide and get away from teachers. If they took care of the kid properly when it happened and alerted you then there’s not much else they should be blamed most likely.

I’ve watched both my 12 and 3 year old daughters in daycares. I don’t know how more of them don’t get hurt in that 3-5 year span. It’s just havoc during their play time.

He’ll probably be fine, I broke my femur when I was 15 and it sucked, never was in a cast, had surgery where they put in a titanium rod and 3 screws. It healed a bit twisted so it still caused me a bit of knee issues every so often, plus get aches & pains in it occasionally all these years later.

Sounds like the same symptoms myles brennan suffers from. Brittle and fragile as glass. Ive never heard of a 3 year old breaking their fricking femur. How does that even happen?

So sorry that your kid is going through this. How did it happen? Most daycare facilities have lots of video cameras. Have you inquired about whether or not there's video showing what happened?

My sister's boy broke his femur around the same age at the playground by jumping off a piece of equipment. He was in a cast for a while and had a big time limp for a couple of months once the cast came off. He's 10 now and is fine but for a while I was worried the little dude wouldn't ever walk right.

I also broke my femur when I was 3... at daycare no less. Snapped it right in half. Seems like a common occurrence in this thread...
I was running in flip flops and slipped on a tile floor. They banned flip flops after that.
As mentioned before, body cast was wild. Had to poop through a hole. Learned how to walk around in it pretty good. I remember having surgery and waking up in traction with a giant pin through my leg. Still have the scars.
I'm sure little tyke will be just fine.

I'm sorry for you and the little guy.
The pediatric orthos know what they are doing. Your son will be fine.
I suppose the procedure is to align the bones correctly so they can heal properly. Your son won't feel a thing during it and won't remember it afterwards. The best thing you can do for him is to be calm and not transmit your understandable anxiety to him.
He will be splinted, probably for about two months but he'll be fine. Kids are much more resilient than adults. Kids that age don't feel sorry for themselves. He'll deal.
Good luck. The future for your family is better than it may appear at the moment.

A broken femur is usually an automatic call to DHS.

Everyone here makes fun of Morris Bart and all the ambulance chasers but at least a dozen people are advising the parent of this boy to sue the daycare over what was probably one of those accidents that just happens without malice or neglect.
