Britain facing a carbon dioxide shortage

British consumers are facing shortages of beer and crumpets, as supplies of carbon dioxide run low amid a record summer heatwave.
An unusually high number of the plants that produce the gas, which is emitted in large quantities as a byproduct of fertiliser production, have closed for maintenance this summer. Whilst some breweries and plants produce their own CO2, the shortage is having repercussions across the food and drink supply chain in Europe.

Highlands Natural Resources just got a permit for a lease in Arizona to develop a source field for naturally occurring CO2 to help with that shortage. Will take a loooong time to get up and running though.
The company I work for has a lease in the same field but we decided not to develop it when oil prices shite the bed. We use Co2 for enhanced oil recovery.

Just spent the last week in Manchester. The crisis is real. Every bar had a sign saying they may run out of beer due to the CO2 crisis. Every news broadcast was reporting on the situation. On my plane ride back, they had no ice cream because there was no dry ice to be had at the airport.
