That's pretty insane. The Library board has a lot of cash too.

Hell, I totally forgot about this insane push to build more new hobo daycare centers in BR

It's been years since we've been. We don't have young kids anymore though.

sounds a lot like a brick and motor library down down that wont be used....

Did they finally fix that thing or is it still about to fall down?

Whoa whoa whoa hold on their chief. Brec is one of the few things this parish does right. I’m happy to pay taxes to fund Brec because we use the park system almost daily, and the parks are (mostly) in good shape. I’m fine funding something that everyone in this parish can access and I can actually see the results of said funding and utilize what has been created. You want to bitch about a waste of taxpayer dollars? Go see how much money the EBR Library System has and all the beautiful new libraries built lately that nobody freaking uses.

IIRC, they've got $100 million in cash just sitting there.

This is a problem. The amount of graft and corruption that abounds in local politics in general, but especially in Baton Rouge, means this will get stolen, misspent, or misappropriated. There is no reason for a city the size of Baton Rouge to have a parks department with that much cash on hand.

Same with the Library board.

These are just ways to continue to funnel money to select people directly from the tax payers.

Mostly in good shape shouldn't be the standard when they're sitting on $100MM.

Every park should be absolutely pristine.

1. I bitched about the libraries too

2. You're ok with having a $100 million surplus?

They need a new up to date zoo. What they have now is so old that nothing has changed in over 30 years.

after not going to the zoo for like 30 years, have been several times last couple of years with my 4 year old

its kinda depressing.

way too little shade and far too few benches

the cages could be so much bigger. there is a bobcat exhibit with 2 of them, its just one small cage with not much for them to do

the rhino exhibit is way too small for an animal that size

they have a train thats been thee forever that literally goes around the outskirts of 1/2 the park. 99% of the ride is nothing but trees
and F that train if you are more than 5 feet tall

Took the kids there this weekend. It's a decent value for what they charge for entry, even with some of the attractions closed for COVID, but there's no question it is in need of significant upgrades.

Nice to know that when people’s businesses shut down because of Covid shut downs the gubment will be there to give you something to do with your time. Maybe they can erect some primitive dwellings for everyone to stay in.

Economy is suffering, but government is building. Get the message yet?

There was a push to move it to Airline Highway Park near the Ascension Parish line.

Are the parks under their purview well maintained?

We have been going to the Blackwater Conservation Area in Central
It’s really nice, a few different trails, ponds to fish
Trash bins & benches everywhere

I've been. Although, the worst zoo I've ever been to, still had an enjoyable time.
