They should look into scooters instead

Oh goody, another million dollar debacle
Posted on 7/24/18 at 3:45 pm to TigersSEC2010
I don't think people stealing the bikes will be the problem.
what will happen is whoever is in charge of upkeep and maintenance will stop doing their job or lose funds so the program will quickly go under.

Like the parish and DOTD couldn't spend that almost one million dollars on something more useful. Jesus Christ.

Bikeshare is an already outdated concept. Jump and companies like it are the future

We have this in Chicago, and I like it a lot.
Only problem for BR may be that the city is too spread out for it to be used a lot. The anti-theft protections on these systems are damn near unassailable if implemented correctly.

The bigger question is where in the hell are people in BR going to bike to and from?
The vast majority of BR isn't bike friendly. Not to mention it's 90+ degrees half of the year.

They seem to be a success in New Orleans as I see them being used quite a bit by tourists and locals. You are 100% correct though, who is going to use them in BR and where are they going to go?

Those bikes are about to disappear or discarded under I-110.
You need a credit card to release the bike from the lock.

Yea they only work if implemented correctly good luck with that in BR

This will end like Ofo did a week ago. Dead. They've taken all 5000 out of the city. It was a complete clusterbang.

They'll have to ride them in the street and will eventually get smoked by someone texting.

Well BR doesn't have the tourist and hipster numbers to support this nonsense

In the first, 50 stations and 500 bikes—some of them electric-assisted—will be at LSU, Southern University and downtown. The second phase will bring 30 more stations and 300 bikes to Mid City, north Baton Rouge and the Baton Rouge Health District.
My area isn't getting any bikes...wtf?

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is providing $600,000 in funding for the program, with the city-parish responsible for matching funds up to $260,000.
what a waste

Not when you take it from some woman riding downtown

Theft isn’t the only problem. These things are going to get beat to shite. Who’s going to be responsible for going and picking these bikes up when they break/deactivate? Just a colossal waste of resources in a town that isn’t setup for bikes to be useful.

Bike share programs see plenty of vandalism and theft, especially early on, but they're still operational in places like Baltimore.
Whether they're profitable is another story altogether.

We don't need profit. We got free money from the government!
