I have mixed feelings about this. It has to be hard for the family of the kid he killed, to see this guy being able to go on with his life.
It's just one of those situations where there's no good solution. You can appease the simple-minded among us and just kill him or lock him up for life. But that really accomplishes nothing and ends up costing a lot in legal bills and the cost of life in prison. And that's assuming the person didn't get railroaded and sent to death wrongly by a government that the same people claim can't handle healthcare or any form of social program. Yet we think they're capable of competently handling a death penalty case?
Or you get this case, where it appears the perpetrator is trying to contribute back to society. And then people aren't happy because they feel it's being soft on crime. You just can't win.
At the end of the day, nothing is going to right the wrong done here. No matter how many people we line up to execute, it hasn't brought anyone back so far.

How’s life treating you now Andrew?

That's not Andrew. But if your search his username he certainly has an interest in inmates and pictures and videos of men.

This brutal murderer should have been put to death years ago.
His victim's family continues to suffer every day, and the liberal news media applauds this piece of human garbage. Put yourself in the shoes of the people who lost a loved one. Saying nothing can bring her back, and to move on, is pathetic. How many more might he have killed if he hadn't been caught?

The Advocate is pure scum shite.

The child he killed is no longer suffering, and making him suffer for life isn’t going to bring her back.
But her parents lives were destroyed the day she was killed and they probably haven't had a truely happy moment since. They didn't get to see her graduate, get married, have children. THEY are still suffering and now have to see his smiling face on the news while their daughter rots in a grave.
frick you for signing up to this site just to defend him.

You know, I’ve actually met the guy twice in person. I’ve been on two different retreats where he’s given talks about what he did and overcoming his actions. The murder of that poor young girl was an absolutely disgusting act and nothing he can ever do will change the fact that he took an innocent life. However, I think we shouldn’t be so quick to judge someone when they are actively working to improve themselves when there are countless guys who are given the same opportunity as Hundley but are worthless pieces of shite who end up right back in prison.
That being said, I couldn’t live with myself knowing the pain I inflicted on someone else’s family like that.

They should have let the girls family do to him what they will. If they decide he should have lived so be it... Real justice
That’s kind of where my ideal system of justice lies. The ancient code.
You spill blood, then your life belongs to the blood of the one slain.
Prove guilt, and then your fate rests in their hands, not the state.

This wasn’t some accidental killing in brief spurt of rage. This animal tortured that poor girl, carried out a painful and horrible death for her, then burned her body.
And if the law now states that his sentence was unconstitutional and he must be freed, ok. He should be living his life in shame as a pariah. Instead, he’s on the front page of The Advocate being shown as some hero for criminal justice reform.
If the Advocate wanted a fully balanced article, along with all the details they wrote about his “reform”, they should have also printed every single detail of why he was locked up in that article. Every bit. Then let the public decide their opinion.
But this article was nothing but a PR piece for him and his so-called non-profit.

On the morning of July 23, 1997, an employee with The Mowata Store found Pitre’s body behind the business. Eighteen hours later, authorities arrested Hundley, then 15 and described at the time as being a “teacher’s pet and political wonder boy,” for the crime.
In his confession, he admitted to hitting Pitre once in the back of the head at which point he didn’t know whether she was dead for sure. He then made the conscious decision to “finish the job” and returned to strike her approximately 15 times in the back of the head with a length of metal or wood.
Hundley was possibly going to be charged with manslaughter but by returning he bypassed the road to a manslaughter charge and was on the road to second-degree murder. He returned, yet again, to attempt to burn the body. When Pitre’s body was discovered by the store employee, it was still smoldering.
Pitre was last seen riding with Hundley in a white van, which is what led to his arrest. He retracted his initial story several times — blaming a friend for the crime at one point — and pleaded not guilty. A jury found him guilty after five hours of deliberations.

1. I remember this murder. My dad was at the store when they found the body.
2. I get the anger at the advocate for the article. Yet people always bitch about the lack of rehabilitation in prisons. Our justice system locked up a criminal for his crimes. It seems the guy turned around his life and you're going to bash him for it? You would rather the guy rot in jail over trying to help others?
I can’t believe this post has as many upvotes as it does
