BP Agent admits starting massive wildfire

Guy owned up to it immediately and it was clearly an accident, check out the fine. How the hell do you pay an $8,000,000.00 fine?
Do they actually expect him to pay that or is this a deal where someone pays $25 a paycheck until they die?

A Border Patrol agent in Arizona has pleaded guilty to accidentally starting a massive wildfire last year while off duty at his wife’s gender-reveal party.
Dennis Dickey, 37, of Tucson, admitted Friday to igniting the Sawmill Fire, which burned more than 45,000 acres and caused $8 million worth of damage in April 2017, according to a press release from the Arizona U.S. Attorney’s Office.
As part of the gender reveal, Dickey shot a rifle at a target containing Tannerite, a highly explosive substance, which was meant to explode with colored powder upon impact.
“It was a complete accident,” Dickey told a judge Friday, according to The New York Post. “I feel absolutely horrible about it. It was probably one of the worst days of my life.”
Dickey, who immediately called the fire department and admitted to starting the fire was charged with a misdemeanor for violating U.S. Forest Service regulations.

I don't think they're allowed to make you homeless or destitute with the garnishment and there's a limit to how much they can take percentagewise, but I'd imagine it can still be a big kick in the nuts depending on how the numbers fall out.
ETA: Found a publication by the Dept. of Labor that says that if you make more than about $1250 a month after legally required deductions (taxes, etc.), they can take 25%. If you make between about $1000 a month and $1250, they can take anything over about $1000 a month, and if you make less than about $1000, they can't touch your paycheck. All rough numbers.

In his defense, I have been around women crazy on pregnancy hormones and if they want to have a party you have a party. Or die. Or apparently start a massive fire and go into massive debt.

Most states those “restitution” fines are not enforceable
Texas will fine you $4,000 in restitution for shooting a deer illegally but the only thing they can do is not sell you a license until you pay
