Be careful what you wish for.

If 300 teachers leave for other careers this summer and 100 positions remain open who teaches the kids? There are statewide requirements as far as teacher/student ratios. Then what?

Imagine that huh? Chlorine so strong it burns in the shower? Bite the bullet and drill a well. At the rate it’s headed, it’ll pay for itself in 3-4 years.

I went into the career almost 25 years ago. It didn’t resemble then what it has become now. My first 10 years we got regular raises and actually had some control of what and how we taught.

I too, started my career about 25 years ago. When things didn't go the way I needed it to go, I changed careers. Teachers just bitch and complain about it and expect sympathy or hand-outs. Change careers or quit complaining...it's getting out of hand and its not a good look on your profession.

The fricking water is undrinkable now. I’d rather take my chances with the amoeba than drink pool water.

I'm starting to think you were assaulted by a teacher. Your attack on them, as an entire profession, is weird.

Some teachers bitch, especially the ones in the union. But your nonstop attacks on the entire profession are really a lot.

no, they were very specific in stating that the school board wanted an increase of 40% in millage. the union, school board and some teachers were the ones throwing out inaccurate information

and it’s not about bashing teachers, but when they do stuff like this they bring it on themselves. Go find a full-time job if you want to make more money.

frick right off, dude. You’re clueless.

I've read the charts, and where American Children/HS Kids are, compared to rest of world, and i'd say these teachers have been on a sick out for years.
Many of those countries give them a test after 8th grade and cull out the bottom;whereas, we keep em all. We even give ACT to non- college bound kids and use the score to rate the high schools.

Offshore workers only work SIX months and make THREE times what teachers make- some of whom dropped out of high school. How’s that?

Bossier is one of the best parishes to work for.

Technology improvements are essentially a must for all parishes as many classrooms were built 30+ years ago and not equipped to handle the surge in technology. I love being in a room with only 2 outlets knowing everything I need to plug in. I have at least 3 power chords and what not

You’re wasting your time in this thread. Hell, on this site in general.

I appreciate the effort though.

I know, man. It’s hard to just sit back and not defend the profession that you’ve dedicated your life to. I know that there are bad teachers. Matter of fact, I’d estimate that about 25% of them need to find something else to do. It just doesn’t excuse the bashing that the other 75% of us take. Honestly, that ratio is probably about the same for any occupation.

In Baton Rouge, they constantly bitch about their low income but chose the profession anyway. That's not cool to me. frick, you knew what the pay was going into it. Don't bitch to me about it and don't expect me to pay a tax for it either. If it bothers them that much - make a career change. How can you defend that kind of arrogance and / or stupidity??

eta: I don't have kids so it's easy for me to feel this way.

I don’t think employees should be able to vote regarding their own raise. In Jefferson parish there are over 6000 school board employees. It’s damn hard to vote anything down when you spot he other side 6000. They put the issue in the May ballot on jazz fest weekend with so many things happening. Low turnout means an automatic tax increase thanks to the over bloated 6000 person entity. JP is becoming the most taxed place in the south. It’s getting ridiculous

How many brand new schools have been built in the last 15 years in Bossier?

This is the truth. Bossier used to be a bunch of good ole boys that usually made the right decisions and not politically motivated. Now days it seems decisions are politically motivated and before long it will be Shreveport East. Keep it up Bossier

That system died 10 years or so ago, now it’s same shite as any other government entity. Politicians make money, that’s all it is to it. It’s sad, but it’s hard to read people being pissed that people in bossier don’t want their taxes raised when we already pay the highest tax rates of any parish in the vicinity of us. If bossier was fiscally responsible the teachers would’ve have had a raise a long time ago. This is all a crock of shite
