would think college grads can be excellent hires. They are cheap, and you can mold them into whatever you want them to be.

That means training

Companies don’t want to pay for training

There's certainly a balance to these things, people nowadays don't want to work 60/70 hour weeks just to look like they are trying hard and doing a good job. The reality that when you die you will be replaced and forgotten is being realised. 10 years after you die nobody is going to be talking about how you were first man in and last man out etc. a handful of people will remember you at work and they will leave shortly afterwards. So why should you slave away for 3 weeks PTO and no sick leave etc?
You see this on this forum when people say "if you can afford to take two weeks off then you're replaceable", news flash, everyone is replaceable. Why wouldn't you want to enjoy your life when you can? Life is shite, why not try and have some enjoyment?

On the other hand, there are basic non-negotiable for work(in my opinion) dress appropriately, speak appropriately and arrive on time. General respect for authority has crumbled both in and outside of work and I'd have no problem firing people who neglect that.

This is a bigger part of it than people think. The younger people I work with are willing to work 60/70, they just aren’t going to do it for appearances.

The older guys want the younger people to be there whenever they are and gripe when they aren’t, but the younger people aren’t going to live at the office unless it’s necessary.

That cultural shift is just going to have to age out, or the older guys are going to have to get good at convincing them that 60/70 hours is truly necessary, and then pay them accordingly.

A real world perspective based on social media and marinaded in zero accountability.

As I have always said: wisdom is expensive.

Eta: my Gen Zs are fricking warriors and damn smart. You just need to put time into vetting them.

My experience as well. When we’re busy, they’ll buckle in and do the work. When we aren’t, they want to be at home not even pretending to work. Which I really don’t even mind other than there is value to being around when things come up. If something comes up that needs to be handled right then and there I’m walking around and finding someone who has time to help, not tracking Johnny down who’s at home and doesn’t respond for an hour.

Not if you're going to leave for another $10K per year...

If we see you're one of us and value our organization, we'll pay for whatever you need.

We vet pretty well to start with, though.

Bitch, I don't need to show my receipts to you. I would consider proving it on here if you'd permanently ban yourself.

It was from a sale of some partial mineral rights. Had to cash a check from a certain trust into my wife and I's personal bank account.

I will freely admit that I didn't have a single hand in acquiring the money except receiving it. Sometimes being lucky is better than being good.

I have seen poor work ethic and unprofessional behavior in some of my Gen Z coworkers

shame on the leaders for not setting the right expectations in the interview process.

Maybe not little buddy, but I don't know what kind of value you're looking for on a site like td.

What's interesting (and no surprise here) but the ones who have grit, respect, are coachable, work hard, figure shite out; they look like absolute rock stars next to a lot of their peers.
