re: Bosses are firing Gen Z grads just months after hiring them

Unfortunately, 25% of my generation was aborted and almost all the rest of us are jaded as hell but we’ve done what we could to start the tide turning back. We are just now inheriting the reigns of power from Boomers so the larger millennial generation is going to have to keep producing competent heirs.

I teach folks how to do things all the time and it’s never once bothered me if their cameras are off. The vast majority of the time either I’m screen sharing or they are. I do have to admit that I’m also not working with new grads, everyone that I’m dealing with have at least 5 years of experience (and usually almost double that).
Experienced people know to speak up when they don't know something. It's my experience that a lot of career younger employees will not, so being able to see facial expressions helps a lot with knowing if people are actually understanding what's going on. It also forces people to actually pay attention instead of doing other shite, which was something I would catch and redirect when dealing with career younger employees.

Employers refuse to train employees. Employers hire employees out of school with no experience. Employer complains that employees behave like they’re poorly trained. Duh: YOU DID NOT TRAIN THEM!!
I would think college grads can be excellent hires. They are cheap, and you can mold them into whatever you want them to be. They come with no preconceived notions regarding how work is supposed to be.
There is a cultural aspect though. I've seen that gen z are much more likely to buy into all the quiet quitting stuff.

Gen Z entered this world the exact same as all generations before. What made them the way they are is their parents, teachers, and society as a whole. They’re a reflection of who we we have become. If they suck a a group, it means our society sucks as a group. The logical thing to do would be to examine who we are as a society and resolve to redress the defects that caused Gen Z to have a large segment of members who lack the ability to be functioning adults.

Wonder hy they never codified abortion?
There were lots of conservative Democrats back then, and Southern Democrats in particular were not generally in favor of abortion.

This is the reason: You're not fricking special and no one cares about your opinions or feelings. Some parents caused this issue, period.
ETA: My kids aren’t like that, they get it and they are productive.

Yes. And it’s Gen X’s fault.

It always amuses me that previous generations will make fun of the newer ones, yet they were the ones who raised them.

This isn’t really true though, generally speaking you hire 2 generations below you. Your kids are a generation below you, rarely do you hire people your kids age. By the time your kids are old enough for a professional job you anre generally hiring management level and your managers are hiring the new college kids.
What I’ve found is the fact is that employment is on the employees side still. Or at least has been for the past 4-6 years or so. This simply spoils people. I knew people in 2008-2012 that were taking $9-12 hour jobs out of college that had 20 people applying for. From 2022-2024 anyone with a college degree was getting $30/ hour without blinking an eye. I know inflation and all, but it’s more a matter of how easy the jobs were hiring.
ETA: you don’t go to college for a great job out of college. You go to get onto a great career track. A career track that without college you wouldn’t have access to. Your first job out of college really should be learning your career and the pay may or may not be there depending on your value.

So, what is the point of college then?
What purpose does the time and debt serve?
The issue isn't the college education. You can get a great education in every profession under the sun. The problem is they're just bad employees. They have no work ethic, the have no social skills and they don't interact well with other employees, clients or customers. A lot of them have never worked a day in their life for an employer. They have been coddled their entire lives. They have never been accountable for anything. They simply do not get the concept of working for someone and having to answer to anyone because they didn't even have to answer to their own parents. It's a mind blowing experience for them. It's a reality check and many can't handle it.
They want everything given to them without the sweat. They got that iPhone10 at age 7. And now they've arrived at adulthood. Sad.

This is a result of:
1. Social media
2. Children being raised by their mothers while dad only got to see them every other weekend.

I have 2 sons in college right now. Both Jrs. One is preparing for the NFL. No, not as a player. He interns next summer & pretty much has a job once he graduates. He's worked his arse off for it & hasn't spent his time in college partying, but building for his future.
The other is currently working pt (has been since hs) & will become ft once he graduates for the same co. And should make partner by 25. They have both prepared & worked hard.
These kids that can't get jobs haven't prepared properly. They don't know how to work.

at what point do we look at the generation that was supposed to raise these kids and prepare them for the real world? When do we call out Helicopter Mom Karen?
At what point do we call out the generation that is teaching them in college?
We have an issue in the accounting world right now where we want to send all the low level work to India. Traditionally this was the work people with 0-5 years of experience did.
Now we want them to be advisors and consultants at age 23. But they have no experience or knowledge so they suck at it. Then we get mad that they suck. WTF
This generation has been babied at home and at school and yet we are shocked that they act like babies at work?
