You’re right. He should have immediately started yelling that he had a gun as he was being maced.

Remember, LEO can create a situation, escalate that situation, create mass confusion, and compound these mistakes into a killing and hide behind not having to act perfectly with hindsight, given the chaos they created....but this guy has to act perfectly, with perfect hindsight, and can be killed even when never presenting a threat, let alone a threat of death.

Speaking of which… I don’t see many people saying he shouldn’t have been maced at all. So I guess many think he deserved some sort of response by ICE.

I never said he had time to declare the weapon. Just that it’s part of the law including having your IDs on you which he did not.

Many people are saying that

It just goes on the back burner since he got shot in the back of the head for no reason

is there any situation that you would be ok with peaceful protesting?

Yeah, can sing, shout, wave signs, blow whistles, etc. from the side walk or any area not directly in the path of where the agents are actively working. The 1st Amendment protects the right to "peaceably assemble", not block traffic and get within arms reach of law enforcement doing their duties.

quote:

Pretti was on the sidewalk, across the street, with a phone in hand and gun still concealed, so he wasn't posing a direct threat, nor impeding with their objective...

And he should have stayed put, but he chose otherwise.

quote:

sorry, but i see a woman being harmed, even if i don't know them, then yes, i'd likely interject to protect that woman... sorry, that's how i was raised.. you don't hit women, period.... you apparently weren't raised that way, and that's ok...

That mindset is exactly why modern women think they are exempt from the consequences of their actions. Lots of videos of women getting their lights knocked out after throwing punches at men. I was raised not to hit anyone unless in self defense.

quote:

honest question, and it's not a "gotcha" or anything, i'm genuinely curious... why?

Because criminals don't call me to set schedules first. I live near Memphis but I carry in the nice areas just as I do when running errands in midtown.

quote:

is it? b/c i feel that he had the firearm for protection, not to go out hunting ICE agents

No, if he was in the mindset not to escalate that situation he would have stayed put on that sidewalk. He was an ICU nurse, had no business trying to direct traffic or getting in the face of armed law enforcement agents no matter what he thought he was doing there.

The moment he starts obstructing, he becomes noticed by ICE and they have to determine what to do

well, by your logic, shouldn't they have reassessed the situation once they notice him on the sidewalk with a phone in his hands?

quote:

So his actions from that point are relevant

yes, they are... such as standing on the sidewalk, on the other side the street of the ICE operation, with a phone in his hands...

quote:

he was attempting to stop ICE from detaining someone.

no, the operation they were conducting was on the other side of the street... the officer that shoved the lady wasn't trying to detain her... shoving a person is not a way to detain them... if he was detaining her, he would have grabbed her, not shoved her, so let's not pretend that that's what the officer was doing... he raged out and assaulted a civilian that had nothing to do with their primary objective...

Should ice have engaged him at all? They didn’t really do anything to him until he got involved with the interaction with the woman.

Okay. Shoved. Not detained. That’s who I was referring to. Him getting involved in that situation meant they engaged with him too, right?

That isn't part of ICU nurse training?

like the woman who was assualted was doing?

so, in your opinion, would this threshold, as you explain it here in your own words, apply to Jan. 6th?

quote:

And he should have stayed put, but he chose otherwise.

at the time of the confrontation, he was "stayed put" until he comes to the defense of the woman who was assaulted... a normal response for most guys, me included...

quote:

I was raised not to hit anyone unless in self defense.

so, if a woman hits you, you are hitting them back?

quote:

Because criminals don't call me to set schedules first. I live near Memphis but I carry in the nice areas just as I do when running errands in midtown.

gotcha... just was curious...

again, if you watch that video, and you think Pretti is the agitator, once that woman is shoved, then you aren't being honest... the man was maced immediately after positioning himself between the woman and the person who pushed her

no, i think its more about the actual murder of this dude, that he macing seems a little irrelevant to the overall topic

I truly think if he was maced and arrested, this wouldn’t even be a topic or story at all. Zero outrage. And you, and many other, would be looking at this differently if at all. I think the death causes bias in the whole situation.
