We have a picture of my great grandmother when she was a toddler on a quilt on the ground with a dog that looks like a border collie. Her mother would put her on the quilt and go on about her work while the dog kept the baby on the quilt.

We had a border collie when I was a kid that taught himself to turn the water spigot on and drink from it and then turn it off.

Its wild owning one.
We had to make up different words for things because our dog figured out the words. We then tried spelling the words and he figured out the fricking spelling. That's how we ended up rotating words like car, food and ride. It's now Peanuts, taxes and flags. He will eventually figure these out and we come up with new words

The best of both worlds is the McNab Border Collie. They herd and focus but they don't require the work that a regular border collie does.

I’ve had several BCs over the years. My last one I got was a beautiful female and unfortunately died at 1 year old. Went outside one day to find her seizing and rushed her to vet but she died next morning. Took her everywhere and I lived out in the country, amazingly fast and agile and yea she had extreme focus on everything she did. Great dog and even after only a year together I still miss her 12 years later, miss all my old dogs

Mine had a ton of chill. He’d play, go on walks, go to the barn but all other times he just wanted to be a lazy lapdog. He was the best dog ever. RIP Calvin

The owner Dr. Pilley was my Psych 101/102 prof back at Wofford. While it was way before Chaser's day he always had a dog with him at school.
While Border Collies have amazing minds dogs, in general, are often far smarter than we give them credit for. We have a Basset that we like to refer to as dumb as dirt but if you pay attention she is constantly doing things to get what she wants often by outsmarting us.

There was a thread couple months ago defining dog intelligence by how many times you had to relate the command to the action before dog knew meaning.
Bell curve.
Border collies in 5 tries and then did it 90% of time.
Some dogs need over 30 teaching tries and then just do it half the time.
I remember pointing out to my sister that Irish setters are not well endowed with intelligence.
Dog named GetDown.
