Redneck Crack is what I call the delicious cajun spicy boiled peanuts.

I boiled 4 lbs. of them this past Saturday to bring to a pot luck "Going Away Party" for a lady who's moving out of town in a couple weeks. Most people either like them, or hate them-----not too many fence sitters.

The folks that like them ate them up and loved them.

I agree on the Okra.. But never have had the Boiled Peanuts.. How do you eat them? Do you crack the shell or do you eat the whole thing?

Mushy means over cooked. They are hard to get just right in the sweet spot. Defer to road side stands in southern Alabama and Georgia if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Terrible. They taste like bland blavk eyed peas.

Try again, and use more salt. It takes a TON to get it just right.

They'll keep absorbing salt overnight if you leave them in the pot, make sure you account for this so they don't get too salty

No crunch no care. Are they supposed to be edamame -like? I love steamed edamame with salt.

No crunch, but the peanut should not stick to the shell and be mushy either. It should be almost like a piece of fruit. Soft but crisp and juicy.

Salty, peanutty and juicy. Fantastic in summer

You haven’t had good boiled peanuts.

You boil them whole and shell them when eaten.

Boiled peanuts are fairly common here in Mississsippi. I personally don’t care for them. They typically boil them in something like you would boil crawfish in. They taste great, but I don’t care for the texture.

I am with you. I love fried okra and roasted peanuts but hate the mushy/slimy consistency of either one boiled. Boiled okra, at least, is much more of a Louisiana thing than a southern thing.

There’s a baw that sets up on the side of hwy 82 past Tuscaloosa right before you get into Mississippi that has some great ones. Wife and I have stopped a couple times coming over for state games

If boiled peanuts are slimy, throw them out. I’ve only seen that happen after being left in a hot car

The slimy was for the okra. Mushy was for the peanuts. Technically, I reversed the order from lack of attention to detail.

I've been a Louisianian for over 80 years and don't recall even hearing about boiled peanuts until maybe 20 years ago.

It's yankee food.

edit: ...and I Iike boiled okra.

The key to boiled peanuts is you have to be on a multi-day beer bender when you eat them. Cajun flavor. They hit like nothing else you will ever eat.

It’s a Carolina/Georgia thing not yankee.
