This was the plot of an episode of the show Superstore, which if you aren't watching that, I recommend it.

I imagine dehydration or even suffocation got him first.

A large commercial cooling unit that needed no maintenance for 10 years? That’s the most amazing part of the story.

I can't understand how the smell of decaying flesh wouldn't have gotten someone's attention.

Police say that Murillo-Moncada's parents reported him missing Nov. 28, 2009, when he became upset and ran out of their home. He was 25 years old at the time and was employed at No Frills Supermarket at the time of his disappearance.

Over a 10 year period, I would think you'd notice rotting flesh smell at least once.

Man this story has given me the chills.

Cold-blooded way to go.

I wonder how long ago his checking account was frozen.

Anyone want a frozen margarita?

Have you ever been in the back area of a grocery store? In some of the worst cleaned ones I've been into, the smell of rotten produce and meat can be overwhelming. Not surprised if no one noticed a weird nasty smell.

Could the coolers have kept his body cold enough? Seems unlikely but I have no clue

He was behind the coolers, not in the coolers though.

Go feel the back of your freezer. It isn’t cold. It removes the heat from inside. That area behind was probability over 100 degrees and not moist

Years ago there was a story of a guy that apparently tried to get into a building by going down the chimney. The fireplace had been sealed and he couldn't get back out. The building was empty, so no one would have heard his cries. I think it was in Natchez. He was there for about 25 years.b His ID was still in his pocket. What a horrible way to die.

Goddamn it. I’m trying to enjoy the OT, and an unusual story about death, and you just had to ruin it by using that word.

Stuckie the dog knows this can be a terrible way to go.

The article mentions that....

quote:

A chimney effect occurred in the hollow tree, resulting in an upward draft of air. This caused the scent of the dead animal to be carried away, which otherwise would have attracted insects and other organisms that feed on dead animals. The hollow tree also provided relatively dry conditions, and the tannic acid of the oak helped harden the animal's skin."

I mean something had to happen to stop the roaches and rats from eating him.
