try to matrix dodge the taser he shoots back at them, then politely keep chasing him until they catch him and detain him?

I read a FB comment from one guy to a friend of mine who used to be a LEO and he literally said just this: He should have dodged the taser and then tackled him. When the former LEO pointed out that the taser comes out at 180 feet-per-second, the other guy says he should have caught it then.

He wasn't bombed out of his mind. He was drunk, and acting mostly polite and trying his best to not appear drunk, even though he was, just like any normal person would do that was being pulled over for a possible DUI.

He was passed out in the drive thru

He ran his car up on the curb

He didnt know where he was, what city he was in, what street he was on, how he got there, etc

I didnt say he was was drunk out of his mind..I said he was bomb out of his mind

He was obviously under the influence of something more than just alcohol.

Drunk people who make the decision to fight cops and run away with a stolen taser are perfectly safe to roam the public at large. There is no possible bad outcome from that scenario

Eh. He wasn’t a public threat.

Cop had 2 choices & he’ll have to live second guessing the one he made all his life.

Because the justification for using lethal force is whether a reasonable officer would perceive an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury. The law does not require officers to accept being seriously injured under these circumstances when someone is using any weapon in a manner that threatens their safety.

Ok, but it's my understanding the unless a person has an underlying health condition the effects of the taser are temporary at worst. It causes involuntary total body muscle contractions that incapacitate the victim. While painful, they aren't long lasting or serious (and yes I've ridden the lighting before...) So was the officer really facing serious bodily injury? Isn't that the whole point of the taser?

I think I have a pretty good understanding of use of force escalation (at least in my own state). The use of force against a retreating subject is a slippery slope. If the officer had been a civilian would/could he be facing any charges? I don't know.

He was a public threat before the cops ever showed up

He had several choices he could have made, and sadly he doesn't get to live with the choices he made. He is dead as a direct result of choices he made himself

And the dead a-hole had a choice as well, but since there are people like YOU who make sure there are no consequences to criminal behavior, he's now dead.

How does it feel to have blood on your hands?

Yeah, this is the bigger issue. Undermining their ability to respond to these situations will not only chip away at how the officers are willing to respond to situations, but will ultimately embolden those that interact with the cops. Not only will the cops have to worry about a mundane situation going sideways, but they'll also have to worry about if they're willing to lose their jobs, or get prosecuted for murder, if they respond accordingly. Ultimately, the general public will pay the biggest price.

It's just so counterproductive

They're tired, they're hated, they're working overtime AND we're now conveying that if something goes sideways and you - tired, in the spur of the moment and in fear for yourself - do something we deem after the fact to not be "good policing" - we'll charge you with fricking murder.

A drunk and high ex convict that just punched a cop, stole and shot a taser at a cop isnt a public threat?

What would you consider a public threat?

I'm not sayign he was ok or just a little under the influence. Bombed out of his mind to me would mean can't open his eyes, can barely make words, cannot walk. He was obviously very very drunk.

Do you think routine DUI stops are much different, up until the point he decided to resist arrest and fight the cops?

The problem is that we're going overboard on reacting to situations like this as if they're the exact same as the FG killing. It's setting a bad precedent and their ruining the chances of actual reform. As usual, they take it too far and ruin their own cause.

Ok. what does that have to do with not following proper protocol and just arresting him b/c of those reasons?

Adn i'm not a cop, and i do'nt even know anyone that is one, and i've never been pulled over for a DUI, but i know they have procedures and protocols to follow, mainly b/c the scum of this country outside of the media, shitty lawyers, have forced so many parts of our lives to follow strict protocols so the law can actually be upheld or else some shitty lawyer will find a loophole and get his criminal plaintiff off with nothing.

Saying you think you are in a different city, isn't some open and shut case for a dui.
