I was one for awhile and thankfully made a career switch about a decade ago before things got really stupid. I worked both the street and back office so I learned quite a lot about the goings on.

The “funding” that everyone wants to pull is what created the very monster you’re complaining about. Depts across the country took a hit as did many things back in 08/09 so they resorted to federal grants so help stay afloat. Federal grants have requirements in order to get them and to continue to be eligible.

Want a DUI grant to pay for overtime (which helps with retention)? Well you need to work X number of DUI checkpoints a year.

Want funding for a SWAT team? Apply for federal funding with justification...btw the justification usually coincides with no knock aka “high risk” warrants.

These are just a few examples but federal money is like heroin. Once you get in thick with it you’re hooked and you will keep your dept within guidelines to remain eligible.

In regards to you vehicle grievance I guess you need to contact the car manufacturers bc as of now there’s only two options. A charger or an SUV. Both of which you seem to think police don’t need so I’ll leave that solution up to you.

I can't imagine having to deal with that and it must be pretty painful. But, the sooner you come to terms with the fact that he's not going to compromise, the sooner you'll be able to move on. There's no reasoning with these people once they've been indoctrinated.

Look at it this way. If you know he'll try to ruin you because you're not in lock step with him, is it really worth the work of trying to reason with him knowing that he'll try to destroy you over this in the end? Attempting to part ways with a grenade in your hand is likely the best avenue.
