I agree, but access or use of your firearm isn't always an option. Popping some dude for resisting is a quick way to end up in the slammer where they love to see cops come in.

Get in a struggle with someone and they have access to anything on your duty belt, taser, pepper spray, gun, whatever.
Its clear you dont know much about how any of this works from the last part of your comment.

LEOs need better critical thinking skills.
Unfortunately, people with solid critical thinking skills don't become LEOs for $40k/yr.
It's a vicious cycle.
ETA - it's the sad truth and people seem to ignore it. If you've got anything going for you, you're going to pursue another career. Hell, the Supreme Court has ruled you can be denied if you're too smart.

I agree. I'm not saying that's the first go-to move, but wouldn't you want training to be able to control them when they get close to you and start reaching (like the cops in ATL)?
Are you going to toss your cuffs to them and tell them to put em on so you don't get within grappling range?

Eh, I don't think they're all dumb jocks like they're portrayed. I think a lot of them get jaded by the shite they have to deal with everyday. ER staff are the same way but we treat them far better than cops for some reason.
