The bearcats/MRAPs are an unfortunate necessity in today’s age. They are a purely defensive piece of equipment. They provided cover to Dallas PD officers while walking the streets during the shooting, the same with BRPD. They also double as a high capacity rescue vehicle during a flood or other natural disaster as most can hold 10-20 people.

The people bitching about police moving with the times and stying ahead or at least on par with the curve are the same ones that think police should still have a .38 revolver for their sidearm.

you seem misinformed if you think you need a $170k+ wheeled vehicle to rescue people from a flood. a few local cajuns with fishing boats proved to be far more effective in this scenario.

as far as the small handful of exceedingly rare major shooting events, maybe you have a case.. but a swat team would be better trained and suited for such occurrences than BRPD. police having sports cars for patrol has nothing to do with what they personally pay for to use as their sidearm. IDC if they have a glock or .38 or whatever, thats a disingenuous argument to propose that departments spend major money on sidearms, because cops mostly provide their own.
