This collapse was coming no matter who was president. Covid and the ineptitude of this administration just exacerbated it.

The boomers prior to covid seemed destined to work until they died. Suddenly retirement and early retirement packages seemed like a better idea when you were the most likely demographic with a negative outcome.

Once they retired they created a vacuum in more desirable jobs. Now people who seemed stuck in marginal jobs are finding better paying jobs.

Anyone who who has ever worked in accommodation, food service, warehousing or transportation will probably vouch for the fact that they are a PITA. If you can find a better job why wouldn't they.

All this “great resignation” news is a bit misleading. Younger people are quitting and finding better jobs.

And boomers retiring in the millions now. The stock market continues to do well or at least hold steady. So it’s a good time to start cashing out and enjoy retirement from here on in.

When I saw the money supply chart for COVID relief last year, I figured somebody was likely presiding over a collapse.

I thought when the unemployment ran out, we might get back to some sense of normalcy. But, so many restaurants have either died or are just getting by on limited hours. It seems to be getting worse again all of a sudden. I don't understand how people are getting by unless they are still living off of unemployment checks from last year and since they didn't pay rent or student loans.

I think this is one of the biggest contributing factors. When a means of earning an income was taken away from these people they just never returned. And why would they? Working with the public is literally the worst.

I quit in November without another job lined up because of workplace screwed me over and I was just completely burnt out. Basically, they were lacking representation of a certain demographic so a promotion was given to a less qualified person instead of me. I quit as soon as they told me...screw that noise! I had a job offer before the end of my notice period that started this week. I got to have a restful Christmas while they are scrambling because the idiot they promoted doesn't know how to do anything.

All that to say, there are a lot of jobs out there right now so people are moving on to greener pastures. Companies have controlled the market for a long time, but now employees are controlling it and are sick of the crap and are walking. This is all cyclical and will likely reverse again completely soon.

These industries are simply going to have to sweeten the pot for workers to make the jobs more enticing. And I think most will. Yes, this means the cost of eating out, etc. will shoot up. But if you want food cooked and served to you in a restaurant, you'll pay the freight.

Add retail as well. Just look at the Hobby Lobby example, new hires at my local store will make more starting teachers with a masters. Soon you will be seeing either the middle class crash or many middle class jobs have to play catch up in order to keep valuable employees saying screw it, I can work a low stress marginal job for almost the same money.

No they are not. They are quitting because of vaccine mandates, and some that are vaccinated are quitting because of the dumbass mask charade. Corporate America in all it's wokeness is getting what they asked for, and the American citizen is getting what they voted for.

I have three kids. It was always tough to deal with illness and school holidays or closures, but it was seasonal and short-lived when it happened. The last two years of living life two weeks at a time did me in. Multiple quarantines, crazy illness policies that lengthened even the normal illness absences. The restrictions. I already worked remotely and it was still a problem for the company that I so often had to make up my work at odd hours because my kids were home. I left my job last month.

We are in a position where my husband can financially support us, and I know not everyone is. I was working because I liked it. And the type of work I do is something I can do on my own without necessarily working for someone else. So that’s what I’m going to do...work for myself.

But I hadn’t left my job long when the next quarantined kid came up and reminded me why I did it.

I know others like me who are out because we are “inessential” by the standards for Covid. How are we supposed to keep steady jobs without reliable school or childcare? For all the talk about empowering women in the workforce, the policies enacted for the last two years have the exact opposite effect.

There is more competition overall for the worker than ever before which is a good thing even though many will paint it on here as laziness and to be fair, some of it is.

Not laziness, professionalism will suffer. I have had my fill of conference calls with crying babies, barking dogs, or TV noise in the background.

Most of them are not, many quit because they demand compensation they aren't worth and think they have leverage by quitting. They usually wind up back in a similar job, settling for similar pay in a matter of weeks once reality sets in.

This was me. Got a job paying more that will let me WFH forever and no vax mandate. Compared with my old job that was trying to get us back to the office and vax was mandated

The Boomers have no idea how to handle this. Most are completely botching the response and digging themselves a deeper hole.

This is where I'm at. I know people say it only "boomers" who want people back at offices in an age where now corporate business should be able to be conducted remotely full time. However, I'm tired of video meetings with the above commotion going on that you cite. Been tired of it for a long time now.
