These companies bring it upon themselves by not prosecuting and demanding that officials uphold the laws. Hell they give credit on crap that they don't even sell.

Right now in many places, nothing.
I watched a guy walk out of a hardware store with a light welding machine, he knew he would not be prosecuted and he was correct.

The other night I was waiting in line ?a self-checkout. The little booth I walked up to was previously occupied by a "usual suspect" with two carts full of groceries, leaving in a bit of a hurry once she was done scanning. Took the time to scan every item and then "forgot" to pay. By the time I got the attention of the checkout attendant to clear the screen for me, that lady was long gone.

No, no it wouldn't be. Have a close friend who works at a large retail store in Lafayette and the amount of annual theft is over $100,000, so you could easily hire several folks for that amount.
