No, no it wouldn't be. Have a close friend who works at a large retail store in Lafayette and the amount of annual theft is over $100,000, so you could easily hire several folks for that amount.

Let’s see...

A few people (~3) at the door and a few people in the parking lot, plus a central command center, for $20 per hour each (these were the terms laid out by the person I was replying to). Let’s say the large retail store is open 10 hours per day, 7 days per week, closed holidays.

That's 7 people × 10 hours × 20 dollars × 350 days, which comes out to $490,000 per year just in wages, before the capital outlay of the "command center", ongoing maintenance, or the extra insurance you're gonna have to pony up for when you employ private security authorized to use force.

Even if "several folks" just means just 3-4 at any time, that's nearly $250,000.

Keep in mind all the stuff stolen is also already insured and factored into overhead costs, and they still wouldn't stop a good proportion of theft, most of which is not the blatant type exemplified in the OP.

This is when you need a president who is willing to cut off their hands if caught stealing. Instead our president will send them free money every month.

You think the federal government should be responsible for local law enforcement?

I don't think that is right, either.

Also completely off topic, as both of those issues are constitutionally ambiguous. Police powers aren't (even though the federal government somehow employs more de facto LEOs than all states and municipalities combined).

You're being disingenuous again.

Sure. Definitely not a "whatabout". Or you actually don't see the difference.

I do think he shouldn't.

If you actually click through all the links to get to the real video, they were not black in this case. The news story included an unrelated picture of black women for some reason.

Why would anyone assume black for Portland? First thing I picture is white junkies dressed in black with purple hair and face tats.

No, but he could at the very fricking least quit glamorizing thugs and tweeting out when a thug is shot, yet keeps his fricking mouth shut when it comes to increasing crime.

my point is the range of the Executive branch’s powers haven’t stopped Biden yet, so to say he can’t/won’t doesn’t seem an opinion based in reality.

Except we weren't talking about "can't/won't". The question was about "should".

You even said later you agreed with my question, yet still chose to respond to try to make a political point. Just dumb.

Does he do this? Can you post a link? I don't use Twitter.

I was literally responding to a post about black people in Portland. The first two pages of the thread are full of people assuming that.

Ad hominem

ETA: It also makes no sense, even in that context. You just posted the adult equivalent of "I'm rubber and you're glue."

ETA 2: Just let the person I was actually talking to answer the question for themselves and go about your own life like a normal person.

his is the new normal, and why paying customers will pay more for goods and services.

It's my understanding that most businesses will not try to stop shoplifters because it's more hassle than it's worth since they won't be put in jail or made to pay restitution.

There are multiple solutions to this.

1. Just follow the people and steal shite out of their yard/home.

2. Hire security and let them beat the piss out of people who steal. Yeah Twitter will act offended but 23 year old Gender Studies majors in San Fransisco and New York aren’t Lowe’s target audience.

3. Tell customers that if they stop them or shame them then they get 10-20% off their order. Or if you report who did it, you get discounts.
