Likely had to do with the DA or family asking them to reduce charges for money or something along those lines.
That is to say, if you commit vehicular homicide in somewhere like St Tammany you are fricked.
He may well get off lightly but it will be because of our judiciary in the 19th or money

Proximo you seem to be making this case a little to open and shut
It seems known the victim did not use a crosswalk
If he alas also considered intoxicated by his BAC, that is a lot working against the case that the driver was at fault for the accident. Now the hit and run seems open and shut

Where there is criminal negligence on the part of the person who committed the killing, it does not matter whether the deceased was jaywalking or if the deceased was negligent in some way.

Oh really? Well he should be fricked
How do you figure this? BAC of the driver will not play a part in this at all, because it's impossible to determine what his BAC was at the time of the accident.

It will play a part because he will be charged with obstruction of justice

How can you possibly prove what it was at the time of the accident? There's no proof that was there any sort of evidence to destroy.

Because it isn’t the first and won’t be the last. Just because they don’t have proof doesn’t mean it won’t be accounted for, ppl interviewed, etc.
Dude killed someone and left. He probably didn’t know and was scared and drove off. Ya I’m assuming, but again, it happens a lot.

Unless they have some receipts from a bar or surveillance footage of the driver drinking before, how could an attorney argue that he fled because he was drunk?

It’s common sense, hate to say it, but Occam’s razor. Easy assumption and it will be investigated.

Even if you have that, you still can't prove what his BAC was at the time of the accident. It's not illegal to drink and then drive. It's illegal to operate a vehicle with a BAC >.08.
