Opponents of the Lee name said it was inappropriate for a school that is 80% Black to be named after a Confederate leader and slave owner.
What is the % that makes it appropriate

It's kind of odd.Trying to erase people from history.

I guess it starts at the top with trump erasing Obama every way he can because he got his ego hurt.

Now he leads the country to go wide open to do the same to people they hate.

Great leadership from the top.

What a clusterfrick.

Unorganized grabass all around.

New signs at the school, new uniforms, new letterheads, new school apparel. Anything else? It seems like a lot of money.

You've got to pay someone to update all the school board websites that face the internet.

You've got to pay someone to update all the information in the school and the school board's intranet and databases.

Lee is a magnet school, so they likely have promotional and recruiting materials that have to be updated and reprinted.

Similar to the sign out front, you have to strip and repaint everything inside the school and out that has Lee High on it. Artwork at athletic facilities? Yep. Probably needs rework.

Does the school's official logo have "Lee High" on it? Get the checkbook out to pay a graphic designer to redo it. After that is done, replace the logos on all school assets that can be easily updated to the new logo. Scrap and repurchase those items that can't be easily updated.

I don't know how EBR handles books, but do the textbooks have "property of Lee High" or something like that stamped on them? How about the library books? All those books have to be restamped and if that can't be done, repurchased.

Does Lee High's phone system have after hours or automated voice system recordings? You have to pay someone to record all new ones to reference the school's new name.

How about new business cards for faculty or administrators? Gonna need some of those.

Does the school have pens or pencils printed up for the staff? Those have to be replaced.

Someone has to spend time to rework the layout of the diplomas.

Does the school have a custom class ring design that isn't straight out of Josten's book? Josten's isn't updating that for free.

Not everything I mentioned is necessarily in play here, but the point is that there are a TON of little things that aren't obvious when you first start thinking about what needs to be done, but they are there and someone's got to get them done. Granted, many of them can be handled in house by staff or some may only cost a couple of hundred bucks. Still, you have to pay that staff to do that work on top of their other duties. It may be an extra hour here or an hour there for staff, or ten hours for a contractor, or a couple of hundred bucks in printing costs, and you've certainly got your large and visible outlays like new signs. It doesn't matter how small something may seem; if you don't pay someone to do that thing, even if it's just a half hour to update the diploma design, it won't get done. It all adds up to be big bucks. Name changes are expensive. My high school did it about two years ago and it was definitely in the $2-300k range.

I have a much cheaper option.

Can they just find another person named Lee that didn’t own slaves and say the school was named after him or her?

Like maybe Bruce Lee?

What exactly does trump have to do with any of this? I guess I’m one of those missing how the president has anything to do with the EBR school board renaming a school.
