Uncle refused to buy a color tv because he claimed it used more electricity than a Black & white tv.

I knew an old lady who was a retired teacher with master plus 30 that had to be mentally ill.She lived in house by my grandparents with no running water and no bathroom. She had electricity but wouldn’t turn lights on.She had refrigerator and deep freezer other wise she wouldn’t have had that. Her brother would haul water to her house in milk jugs periodically. She was in her 80’s and went to bathroom in the woods,if weather was too bad she used a pot.Didn’t have tv,radio or even a fan. When she died she left about 4 million dollars to her nieces and nephews as she had no children,Family said she starved herself because she thought food had gotten too expensive. It was sad.

If Jeff Bezos could live one more day, he would give up his entire fortune. Most would.

You need to plan for your-- collectively-- future, but live life.

I assume some people look at living life differently.

As long as they're happy, who really cares.

I used to work with a guy who travelled for work about 70% of the time. He would brag about how little money he would turn in on his expense report. One week of 4 nights and 5 days travel and his expense report was $5 and some change. He would go to a supermarket and buy some canned vegetables and heat them in his hotel microwave and eat in his room and watch tv. Saving all that company money didn’t win any brownie points as he got canned anyway.

When my Dad was in the Army and later a DAC he would bring home that single ply TP in the white wrapper that was more like sandpaper than toilet paper.

My mom would always ask for extra napkins and condiments when we went to a fast food place. Growing up there were 5 Tupperware dishes on the counter. One for ketchup, mustard, mayo, ranch, and cocktail sauce. There still is along with a stack of napkins from different places. The grandkids love it.

That's not living, that's just wasting away your money and life.

I have a colleague in another state that refuses to tip most people, on a Uber trip to airport he said his app wouldn’t allow him to tip the driver who helped us with the luggage.
I gave the guy a $5

When he retires he will probably die within 2 years and never get to enjoy his money. You should talk to him and tell him to get out and enjoy it today.

We had this exact conversation today. He’s 100% happier saving it than spending it. He’s just got that Spartan mentality. He doesn’t save because he’s afraid he won’t save enough, he saves because it’s the disciplined thing to do and he’s just a disciplined person.

Paraphrasing by the randomly texted me saying spending $100 today could cost me hundreds in earnings if it was invested into the market for the next 30 years and then multiplied obviously for each expenditure. To which I respond,” well yeah but what if I get hit with a bus tomorrow?”

You always see the real cheapos on work trips. One guy wouldnt ever go out to eat, we were at a Marriot and had access to the lounge, he would just go there and eat snacks.

Guy in grad school told me he would go around and take the last sip out of beer cans at the bar. Freaking weird.

Me, my podna and his younger brother went to Burger King. We all order and his bill comes out to like $4.07. He asked his brother for a dime so he would have to break a quarter. We sit down and he pulls out a slice of cheese to put on his burger. Still a tightass to this day.
