I just got caught on the train tracks at Nicholson and Tigerland. Couldn't go forward or I'd slide into car down the inclince. When it went down the hill it slid into the intersection and then backed up. I wouldn't normally stop on the tracks but had to when I saw car in front of me slide down the other side.

I look to my left and see trainlight coming my way. I had to get out and get people behind me to backup. Once I pointed at the train they cooperated. I backed down the other lane. A ford excursion behind me couldn't get up the incline from a standing start either. I was in an expedition.

The traIn passes on by headed south. 2-3 minutes later it comes to a complete stop. Knowing what just went on at the Tigerland Crossing, I'm thinking a vehicle may have had th same issue at the brightside Crossing.

On the road for 15 minutes and saw one car spin out marking a left turn and another car almost rearend another car. Everyone was driving very cautiously.

There’s a bit of a difference between those and most occupations.

So, the world should just shut down is what you are saying. Hospitals, cops, fire fighters power plant workers need not show up. What a arse.

All essential services. I'll even give you power plant workers.

You're the arse if you can't figue out what I was saying. Maybe the guy is essential. I don't know.

But what I said applies to any nonessential/noncritical position. It's asinine to believe otherwise. We are not equipped to deal with this kind of weather.

What are the thoughts on roads around ascension/BR defrosting today?

In many areas it looks to not go above freezing so I’m wondering if tomorrow morning will still hold ice on the roads.

I can see surface streets defrosting, but I'm not so sure about elevated roadways.

I think with the bright sunshine today it’ll help melt everything pretty good... Grimes on WAFB said last night the sun would help warm up surface temps before actual temps which should allow things to thaw

Blacktop will melt fast since it will absorb any heat from the sun’s rays. Cement will take longer. Also once it melts it’ll dry since it’s windy today and low humidity. Tonight will be mostly A-OK.

From Steve Caparotta:

Still working on the forecast but some guidance suggesting we struggle to get above freezing today. Sun can still accomplish some minor melting but I think icing issues likely to linger into tomorrow.

I've got a strong melt going off the roof and the street has already melted off pretty well. Dew points at 5. The black tops should be dry and drivable by night time. Concrete raised roads are going to be the question mark.

I hope so. I need to get my horse out of his stall for a little exercise or he’ll kick the damn barn down. I can get there without crossing anything raised. Thinking late afternoon.

Thick ice all over my parking lot, though

Here's a video that I took this morning of some Arctic sea smoke at Pensacola Beach.
Pretty neat.

We got 6+ inches of snow in Charleston a couple weeks ago and it didn't melt until the temps finally went above freezing a few days later. It only snowed the one day, but back roads and neighborhood streets were still dangerous 4 days later.

This. The snow is melting fast on my roof. It's like a water fall, but the temp is only 30F.

Just realize that areas of roads that are shaded may not melt as quickly. And if wet they will refreeze tonight.

I know this is probably a long shot but is there any chance that LSU closes tomorrow to?
