It's as if his cabinet is full of 24yr olds and they are simply making shite up as they go for only their benefit.

Why stop there? Start putting caps on my mortgage, interest rates, electric bills, and gas at the pump while you’re at it
More election season vote grabbing

Because financially responsible people aren't the demographic he's trying to buy votes from.

Amazing leading up to an election to say this. Is he assuming all landlords are republicans?

The deposit just went from two months to thirty

This would backfire spectacularly.

St Paul MN did this once and all construction left there and went to Minneapolis. This would literally cause there to be less housing.

Not even NYC does this anymore.

It’s almost doubled already. What good is 5% going to do now?

Increases on property taxes, MUD taxes, Insurance, etc... all going to be capped also?
Good lord what an absolute clown. Won't survive in court for 10 minutes. Appealing to the dumbest of the dumb that actually think this is possible.

I would guess that people/companies with less than 50 rentals are 80% republican. People that have to deal with real problems tend to become republicans.

What actually happened the last time price fixing on housing was tried was landlords simply shuttered their units rather than abide an artificial rate resulting in a severe housing shortage. “Hello! Homeless problem already exists!”
Actually happened in the late 60’s/early 70’s. At some point the owners just shut down and tried to wait it out.

Biden himself previewed the announcement at his NATO news conference Thursday, folding it into comments that blamed inflation on companies trying to maximize their profits in the aftermath of the pandemic.
Oh wild, employers now charge more because their employees expect to be paid more. Crazy concept. I would next guess that paying people thousands of dollars not to work would cause this.

the best way to limit housing costs would be through more construction and changes to land use regulations.
More work from home options in tight job markets. Live further away from the office.
