That logic is air tight....but if the company's fleet average doesn't meet or exceed 40 mpg, they get penalized.

So all the pickup truck makers will need to double and triple down on very expensive EVs and hope that they sell well, or else they are going to have to pass the government regulatory penalties onto their customers.

How do we properly invest in crate engine manufacturing?

Everyone will just keep buying engines and parts to keep their decades old ICE engine running. Because not everyone can afford to pay $60,000+ for a Tesla.

Might as well have mandated that all cars run on gender fluid by 2026.

then use their EV sales to offset them so their CAFE average is 40+ MPG.

I don't think you read that quote about average mpg correctly. It's per vehicle.

Yes they can. Our Transportation Secretary said so.

Absolutely mind blowing that the government is mandating this.

Hey your new vehicle need to average 40mpg so you can afford gas. Also, set aside 14k for when the turbos go out.

Bout to buy 10 old toyotas and get them ready to flip. They will be worth gold when fuel prices drop and you can only buy these newer turds

Didn't the CRX get 50mpg back in the day?

It's possible. It just has to be tiny, and probably missing 14 of the 16 mandated airbags and other safety tech.

Cars have gotten bigger, heavier, and more powerful, while fuel economy has stayed roughly the same. A modern Honda Accord gets about the same MPG as a 1988 Accord
