Here’s another email that was just sent out:
Thank you for reaching out about annexing into Baton Rouge! We've received an incredible response from the community and we're happy to help facilitate annexation for anyone who is interested!
We want to create a path to annexation to anyone who is interested, and we can do that by coordinating these efforts and "smart" annexing one area at a time to create a contiguous path of Baton Rouge city limits throughout the parish. Any property owner, commercial or residential, adjacent to current city limits can request to be annexed into Baton Rouge.
Interested in annexing? Email us your name, address, and phone number (if you haven't already), we'll send you the signature page to sign, you sign it and mail it to us and we'll take it from there!
We're creating a signature page that each property can sign and mail to us and we'll attach that to the appropriate petition depending on your area and the area requesting to be annexed and we will file the petitions on your behalf. We will be emailing those next week. So please watch your email. It will come with instructions on how to fill it out and where to mail it back to.
Additionally, we are hosting Annexation Day Saturday, November 23rd from 9am-4pm at the Unitarian Church located at 8740 Goodwood Blvd 70806. Drop in any time to get your questions asked about annexation and sign the petition for your property to annex into Baton Rouge! Event Page is here:

As always, I'm personally available if anyone has any questions/comments/concerns. You can email me at OneBatonRouge@gmail.com.

Why didn’t they annex these now clamoring areas before? It couldn’t possibly be they just wanted their tax dollars into the slush fund while having minimal representation.

Somebody send this link to those dumb motherfrickers
School System Ratings
These ratings include ALL three districts:
Zachary #1 = A+
Central #9 = A-
BR UNRANKED = C+
Baton Rouge schools are "C" graded schools ONLY because they are averaged in with the magnet schools. Anyone who has kids that are NON-Magnet would be an absolute idiot for not wanting to incorporate.

quote:I guess it's difficult for you to comprehend that just like some people would prefer being in St. George rather than being in Baton Rouge or in an unincorporated area, there are some people who would prefer being in Baton Rouge rather than being in St. George.
Why didn’t they annex these now clamoring areas before?
As President George W. Bush once said, "This ain't rocket surgery."

No I completely understand it. I’m just wondering why there was no push before EBR’s piggy bank was about to shrink.
Posted on 10/25/19 at 12:30 pm to Oilfieldbiology
Because there was no reason for property owners to make changes.
Residents and business owners were satisfied being in an unincorporated area.
They don't have that choice now so they would rather be in Baton Rouge.
I don't understand why that is so difficult to comprehend.

There’s no guarantee the metro council would even approve these annexations. Back when Kip was Mayor someone on the council wanted to get Gardere annexed into Baton Rouge. Kip said that this wouldn’t be a good idea because it would spread BRPD too thin.
Just wait until they deny some of these requests.

I'd bet much of the population in St. George shitting their pants about incorporation has kids in magnet school.

It appears OneBR's plan is to bleed St. George dry through annexations and legal disputes before it's even a real city.
And it might work...

quote:There has never been a valid annexation petition request rejected by the EBR Metro Council.
Just wait until they deny some of these requests.
That point was made during the first SG petition when businesses started requesting annexation by BR.
So, if some annexation petitions get rejected this time, it would be a first.

From what I’ve read they have three choices; stay in SG, petition to unincorporated, petition to be annexed into BR.
The processes are all different but there are different paths. Personally I’d encourage each neighborhood or each neighborhood association to get together and choose their path.

stay in SG, petition to unincorporated, petition to be annexed into BR.
They can't petition to be unincorporated because they are ALREADY unincorporated.
The ONLY option they have now is to petition be annexed into Baton Rouge.

Why weren't they chomping at the bit to annex parts of St. George before the election? It's most likely because this would make the city of Baton Rouge majority white. Be careful what you wish for, Sharon.

They couldn't. Once the petition is in play annexes are frozen.

They have three options long term but if they really want to be annexed into BR then they can do it now.
But there are options.

They could have moved for annexation of areas w/in St. George after the first petition failed, but before the second petition was circulated.

The thing I’m pissed about is the Catholic Church’s involvement in Together Baton Rouge. They think they are too big to fail due to their stranglehold on private education in BR. St. George is a threat to their money, therefore their enemy.
I guess I’ve become an enemy to my own church, but it wasn’t my choice.

quote:Assuming they get a majority of signatures, they obviously don't want to be in St. George.
They can wait and stay in SG, if it is approved.
If they wait until SG actually becomes a city (which, in theory, could be years away) then they will have to go through a TWO petition process: 1) become unincorporated again which they don't know if a new SG city council would be agreeable with granting them, and 2) be annexed by BR. So waiting increases their work and risk.
quote:How do they know the SG city council will be agreeable to grant their request to leave the new city of SG? They don't. They will have to "rely upon the kindness of strangers", so to speak.
If they want to be unincorporated, they can wait and if SG becomes incorporated; petition to leave SG and become unincorporated again.
quote:NO, their ONLY option NOW is to petition to be annexed by BR. It's also their option that would require the least amount of time and work and has less risk that they will get what they want.
The third option is to petition to be annexed into BR.
