First things first, it's my understanding with a direct tv account, I can take my box anywhere and plug it into a 2nd direct tv dish and watch tv. We are wanting to do this to watch college football games at a camp, but same idea as bringing one to a tailgate.

Where do I buy the dish? From direct tv? I see some for sale on Ebay...

Also, I want the 3 probe thing in front of the dish, not the single, correct?

Someone on here does this for tailgates or a hunting camp... Please tell me what exactly I need to do.

Thank you.

I thought that the whole idea of having a camp was to get away from all of that.

I saw these all over the quad in Tuscaloosa
during tailgating.
These are for Dish Network. DirecTV needs these.

If you already have direct tv at home just call them and tell them that you would like and extra dish and receiver for your RV. Install it yourself at the camp and enjoy. It will cost you an extra $5/month.

If you tell them it is for a second fixed structure they will make you get a separate package.

I ordered my Direct Tv dish on EBay and installed it my self at my camp. I just took a receiver from my house that we didn’t use that much and it just stays at the camp. I pay no extra charges this way.

This is true but you have to adjust the angles of the dish based on your location as well as get the box to sync. The problem is that if you call direct tv to try to get the correct angles and sync the box, they know you're bootlegging and will shut it down.

I did it for a while using an old dish on my roof from the previous owner and an extra box from my parents. It lasted about a year until the box unsynced.

I have one you can have. I'm sure I have a old 3 LNB unit too for multiple sats.

I have upgraded four or five times since Katrina and flipped to Cox for a while.
I threw two dishes away, but kept two for projects, but I never got to it.

(You can get wi-fi from miles away with an old dish and some radio shack parts)

Dish Depot

Call or order your receiver and/or dish from Dish Depot

Install dish yourself

hook up receiver

Call DirecTv to activate your new receiver using your already existing account.

I have Directv in 3 different locations and I catch all NOLA local channels at each location.

Not to hijack....but, i have one box that has the “thing” that plugs into the 110v wall socket and basically my other 4 boxes have to have that working to get dish....so would have to order another one of those to access my account at the Camp, correct?

Just get internet at your camp, plug a roku in, and log into your dish account

If you call DirectTV, do not tell them that you are installing on a permanent structure. They will charge you for a new account.

I recently did this exact same setup for my camp.

I called a local Satellite/Internet provider in the area; told them what I was doing. They have the parts and installed it for <200. Much easier than doing it myself and any snags, they deal with.
