Best shirt and tie color combination to wear with a medium gray/charcoal suit

What sayeth the OT? I was leaning more towards black shirt with neck unbuttoned and no tie, but exploring other options as well. What do you wear with your grey/charcoal colored suits?

Under charcoal colored suit, I like a dark blue or purple... sometimes depending on the occasion I will wear pink

White is best. Tie is rather flexible just don't go flashy/crazy.

If you wear a white shirt you can pair it with just about any color tie. Black shirt is terrible.
