Not sure about best but wife and I are looking at buying a 3-4 acres in southern Colorado and develop it to our liking over the next 25 years and then retire there. Put a nice small house and a separate guest house for our kids. At least that’s our dream plan.

Apparently most of the country believes it's SWFL, based on the aging population. Oh, and The Villages, NE of here.

But then again if it was close to mainland it would not be kona..
I wish I could have worked out a plan but to far from the kids and grandkids

I've considered Bonita Springs. What's your opinion on that since you live there?

Baldwin County AL for the majority of the year. Hunt the black belt for white tails and elk out west during hunting season. Trout fish Idaho during the late summer.

Asheville

I used to think Asheville would be pretty cool until I spent a week there. Hated it. It has a few nice things that I like, but mostly it is just a big tourist trap.

On the other side of the ledger, I thought The Villages would be a big shite show, but it was a lot nicer than I had pictured... still not moving there, but if you are thinking of retiring to FL, it should be on your short list of places to visit.

My retirement house. Not too excited about downsizing, but we all get old.

I’ll have a place in Colorado mountains for the summer months. Will golf, fish, ride jeep/ atv trails etc. Will rent it during winter.

Will keep my place in Baton Rouge for fall/ football season.

Will travel in the spring

Haines, Ak. No place like it. Everything's locally owned, about 3,500 lucky souls live there. Mountains, lakes, rivers, the sea...Abundant wildlife. It's a temperate Eden.
