Alright, it’s been like half an hour.

Have you finished it yet?

I used to think Asheville would be pretty cool until I spent a week there. Hated it. It has a few nice things that I like, but mostly it is just a big tourist trap. On the other side of the ledger, I thought The Villages would be a big shite show, but it was a lot nicer than I had pictured... still not moving there, but if you are thinking of retiring to FL, it should be on your short list of places to visit.

I appreciate the input on Asheville, I’ve never been there but I’ve heard good things and i like it’s geographical location and climate.

In re to The Villages, the only things i know about it is that most residents get around via golf cart, and the previously stated fact that the rate of STDs is sky-high.. Besides that, the fact that it’s in the middle of the state and not super-close to any beaches is extremely unappealing to me.. also that it’s (i think) almost 100% retirees.. i’d probably want a mix of different ages/demographics around when i retire.. all that said, i’d check it out and be open to being wrong about it.

Somewhere with wide open spaces. Retiring in a city sounds like hell

I visited The Villages in March for 3 days. I’m 58 and was by far one of the youngest there. I didn’t see any herpes crawling down the street.
