I started this thread knowing that I would be wide open (no pun intended) for stupid replies.

I agree on Acadian Cypress in Ponchatoula. As a younger man I used to work there. Since I moved to Baton Rouge nothing else comes close. I have not been in the cypress place on Siegen though.

Cajun Hardwood and Cypress Brown Road in Central.
Acadian Hardwoods in Pontchtoula coming from I-55 take the first exit off I-55 overpass coming from LaPlace and go down on the left before town.

I'm way west in East Texas but I have built a lot of hardwood furniture. So your key is to look up hardwood lumber stores. Spend some time on the internet. But I've purchased hardwood from Deano Hardwoods up here in ET. They are based outside of Lafayette (Broussard). You may have to get on I10 and drive over there. The world of a hardwood lumber store will blow you away if you only see an occasional red oak plank at Lowes.

Cypress is a deciduous softwood. I've built a lot of beautiful stuff from cypress also but I don't think it is what you are looking for.

Also up here I purchase walnut directly from a sawmill in Rusk, Texas. It's great to buy the stuff directly from the sawmill and much cheaper than retail.
