re: Best Gun for Home defense

Like many have said, a shotgun is the BEST route to go. 20 gauge is less kick than a 12 gauge yet still packs more than enough stopping power.
Two things I disagree with other posters on though. First, I would rather have a semi-automatic than a pump action. I've shot guns whole life yet I can't tell you how many times I've forgot to pump a new round into the chamber only to not have the gun go boom. If the excitement from dove hunting can make me forget to have my gun ready, I Don't want to risk needing a follow-up shot on an intruder only to hear a click when I pull the trigger.
Secondly, there's nothing wrong with having a few "tacticool" accessories on your shotgun. A pistol grip is very comfortable and many people find it more natural to use. Also, a flashlight mounted onto the barrel of the gun would come in handy in a dark house, but it does have a few drawbacks. The light will ruin your night vision and if your enemy is armed and competent then they will know to aim at the source of light.

if your lady can shoot a 20ga, she can shoot a 12ga.

I recommend a Glock 17 (9mm) and 1,000 rounds of 115grain FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) ammo. I would then suggest taking some type of basic firearm safety class followed by a basic handgun class and then a more advanced fighting pistol class. (Quality Training is not optional and is more IMPORTANT than anything when it comes to self or home defense.) NolaTac in Arabi Louisiana offers excellent classes or if your located in another state, find quality competent training near you. At the very least take a basic handgun safety class and go to the range and practice with the weapon until you are comfortable and accurate and then pick up some quality HP ( Hollow Point) ammunition and run a hundred rounds through your weapon to assure it feeds and functions correctly with the HP ammo you selected.( I suggest Federal HST 124grain Jacketed Hollow Point ammo for defensive use but others may have their own preferences.)(Never shoot the Full Metal Jacket ammo you bought for training and practice inside your home for self defense!) ( FMJ Ammo is not designed for defense and can over penetrate your intended target and pass through additional walls and doors causing harm to family members.Only use the hollow point ammunition you purchased for home defense.) I hope this information helps you out.

get an 870 home defense 12 guage. don't get one of those pistol grip shot guns that you can't shoulder.
Good deal but I'd advise a 20g youth. Still klls dead. Shorter barrel. Wife and kids can handle it

absolutely not. get something with a full stock to shoulder and aim.
what's wrong with those?

she doesn't need to aim very well since the shot spreads. She just needs to point into the direction of the mother fricker who decides to break in and pull the trigger.
Another myth perpetrated by Hollywood. At the distance between you and the target likely to be encountered in a house there is very little spread in the pattern of even the shortest legal shotgun, if you don't aim just as you would a rifle you could miss.

Get a German Shepard and a tactical 12ga.

Before you go buy a new 870, I suggest you ask the outdoor board about them. The older 870's are built like a tank. The newer ones aren't made well at all. Better known as Rustingtons.

I sleep with a Mossberg 12 gauge near my bed and a Glock.

I bought the loudest pistol that shoots the biggest fireball I could find. I hopes that does the trick because I can't hit shite with it. I'll be blind and bleeding out of my ears if I fire it in my house, but hopefully they'll have all that and crap in their pants. I (hopefully) win.

you can't shoulder and aim plus they are hard to control

A gun that you are comfortable with and seldom miss with should do it.

They're called wrist-breakers for a reason

That looks badass
Who makes it and what is the price tag on it?

That little pop gun is the best you could do? Try my .50 cal DE with a few of my homebrewed rounds...

You should have a round ready to go.
